Nice job, looks very professional to me..
You have a good hand to eye coordination going on there.
When it comes to checkering, I will readily admit I'm not good at it. I'm very near sighted and my glasses make it easy to misalign the tool with the checkered groove.
When I first started, there was lady from Washington, whose father was a custom stock maker. She did all of his checkering work.
To bad I couldn't convince her to move to Canada.

Looks awesome, I want to re stain a old cooey stock, it's a 750 with a rabbit, but I don't want the wabbit to go away haha, and I need to get a checkering tool I think to do other stocks lol
Thanks for the positive replies! This is my very 1st trial with the tools. I bought them 2 years ago, 200$ US for the master set (mailed to me), and quite a few spare cutters. Straight from Dem Bart. I will need to build a checkering cradle, as I have other projects I want to get into.

If word gets out about your keen eye and steady hand, you'll have a line-up of friends, relatives, and wannabe customers at your door looking to have some checkering work done. My compliments to you. It's something I've thought about trying, but have never purchased the tools, in part because I just don't think my patience and skills would be up to the task.

I've got a Savage 1899H 22HP and a Mannlicher Schoenauer 1924 that need stocks. These are projects that I hope to tackle this winter. Here is a butt-stock I made for my wife. It is a bit of an ugly duck compared to the graceful original lines with the cresent butt, but my wife doesn't like recoil and I stocked this, to the best of my ability, to fit her small stature. I won't be practicing my checkering on it, as she doesn't like checkering!

I just went surfing a bit and found a Factory Engraved 1899-F Savage sold for $2750us back in 2012. Could copy the wood engraving so it would be close to original.
My first attempted at full checkering was on a Cooey Hiawatha. Tried to get it as close as possible to a OEM Cooey stock

Got the 1st coat of oil on (tung oil) today. I glued up the crack in the stock. I botched the installation of the recoil pad, if it bugs me enough I can redo it. How-ever, the stock is pretty rough, especially where the action is inlet, not much I can do about it. As long as it is functional, and it provided me something to practice on!
