Looking good. I did the rail on my AR following this pattern. I find mixing to many colours can look goofy if its not perfect. The tan and OD green look good together IMO. Check this video out from range time, his rifle looks pretty badass. Its the stencil I followed as well.

This might be a stupid question, but if I want to paint an AR (that is currently only anodized black from the factory), is it enough to just spray it down with brake cleaner and dry it, or do I need methyl hydrate as well?

I used the alcohol as a final wipe to get any leftover bits of oil (from hands and stuff). YMMV.

Some guys don't do any surface prep first. This is a temporary paint job.

My stupid answer; were I in your shoes, I'd hose the gun down with the brake cleaner, so that there is ab-so-lutely NO oil present to compromise the paint's adhesion.

I don't have anything bad to say about the norc, but i'm totally going to have to get a canadian gun and paint it like this.

I personally used a full can of brake cleaner. Several full soaks, then left it to dry so i could see where there was remaining oil. Then soak again... Repeat until the can was empty. Non-chlorinated btw.
