Earlier this week we were finally able to get out and go shoot the 110BA .338 at long range. I found an old furnace door 20"x18" and we hung it off a tree at what I measured with my reticle was 925 yards. The weather was light winds but a bit misty at times. Had an awsome day! My buddy brought his 6.5x284 custom and we were able to get on target after a few shots.

I only had 23 rounds loaded up, took 3 rounds to zero the rifle and get chrony data at 180 yards, then took 3 rounds to get on target. We used iSnipe for our data. I had to bump up the FPS on iSnipe by 83 FPS to get it to match the elevation I had dialed in for 925 yards.

One thing about the target is that we were not shooting for groups. We were just excited to be hitting the target. The rounds that just dented the steel were from the 6.5x284, the ones that went through, obviously the .338. Now i'm out of bullets. Anyone know of anyone in winnipeg who stocks the 500ct boxes of the Sierra 300gn HPBT's? Next time we go out were definatly going to try for groups though!

Load was 91gn H1000
Lapua Brass
.035 off the lands

Looks good!

My buddy got me out shooting for my first time last weekend. Shooting his custom built rifles my first grouping @100 was >.5". (all rifle, not necessarily me). We went through lots of information before hand, about 60-70% reloading (which I am very intrigued with) and 30-40% about proper technique, safety, ect.

We then hiked off into the meadow to set up targets at 560yards where I was plinking off a 10" target no problem on his 300win. I could hit the 4" once dialed about 2/3 times. That gun was lethal!

Now I'm wanting to get my own and set it up for long range. Grouping is fun, but attempting similar groups at long range is mind blowing they can be so accurate. I know I should slow my horse because lots of trigger time is required but the learning process is 3/4 of the fun for me.

(i've ordered a reloading kit and looking for a solid rifle to buy now...)

Yea the .338 was FUN! It was great hearing that thing ring at that range. We also have gongs set up at 690 and 420 yards there, but we never shot at them that day. Next time we go out i'll try shooting at them and see if iSnipe is accurate. I think the rifle is going to be promising though. There were a couple hits on that steel that were fired back to back and they hit pretty close to eachother which is impressive for 925 yards.

Shibby! you definatly need to get some reloading gear. I dont know what's more addicting. The shooting or the reloading!

I know what you mean. I've been reading a ton of info, reviews, and asking my friend questions. I'm almost more excited to build that perfect bullet then shoot it! haha.

Love to see more pics of your day if you have them. It's another great excuse for me to get out of the city, but sadly we have to drive about 1.5 hours to our 1000yard "range".

care to share a bullet building link?

From what I learned building accurate bullets is all about consistency. I wish I had shot all my loads through the chrony but I only shot 3 through it, and one came up as an error. Get yourself a lee 50th annivisary kit and a chrony and start making those bullets. You will eventually know what else you need to buy. I ended up getting a redding type S bushing die, forester micrometer bullet seating die, redding body die, redding lathe type trimmer.

Size your cases the same, trim them the same, load them the same. Consistency consistency consistency.

There is defiantly a lot of info out there. Some of it is up in the air on wether or not it actually makes a difference. Use quality brass. I'm using Lapua brass and those loads are on load number 16.

This is really the only other pic I have. The target is the white dot In the center in The tree line.

I think you guys mean rounds. A bullet is a projectile loaded into a casing with your powder and primer making a round. I figure I should say something politely before you both get flamed.
The .338 Lapua is a fun calibre to shoot indeed, its amazing how much energy it still has at long range especially when you compare it to your buddies 6.5x284.
Learning the whole shooting/reloading game is half the fun, especially when you apply it at long range.
Keep shooting and have fun.

Good to hear you saved all that money. They did want way to much for it, especially seeing as they have absolutely no ammunition for it. It would have made more sense for them to bring in the .300 or .308 version. They did end up selling it though surprisingly..

It's cool to see other shooters around Thunder Bay, I'm jealous of your .338 to say the least lol.

They bought in two 338LM and one 300WM. I picked up the 300WM.

All us long range shooters should get together and go shooting some time.

I was in there a week or two ago and looked at the Lapua, I think the price on it was $2650 or thereabouts.

The 300win is a really good choice considering where we live and ammo availability. Still wish I had a long range rig like those haha.

I picked mine up last fall. The price then was $2750. When I was holding the gun my buddy asked the price. Before I could look at the tag, the guy across the counter said $2000.

I reload but 300WM costs half as much to reload so I went with that.
