first time at the range with the new ar

Here is a sample of the LMT Inspection Tag that comes with LMT Upper that been assembled and tested at the factory by LMT...

Inspect_Tag.jpg

It's on heavy sand coloured stock and usually attached to the front sight post or the sling point... sometimes they get torn off and in that case they are included in with the upper (or lower) in the plastic bag the assembly is wrapped in and then boxed from LMT.

Thanks for the suggestions. Once I get home tonight I will take a peek and hopefully be able to borrow a camera. Let you all know what I find. Hopefully its all Legit.

and this is item description of the rifle

LMT Defender 2000, NEW, 10.5" barrel, Standard S/A bolt carrier group, Marked 5.56, barrel twist 1:7, barrels crome lined, SOPMOD Stock, Two Stage Trigger, Ergo Grip

hopefully this wasnt misleading in some way.

the bolt has the mp marking on it and the barrel is marked mp 556 nato 1/7 CB. the markings are behind the gas block and nothing marked in front.

what else should i be looking at?

and there is next to no grease on it.

what would be best for it? i have clp, gun oil, and gun conditioner at home. can always go get something else.

I had what sounds like a similar problem with my well-used but new-to-me DAR-701 when I started reloading for it, similar dents and scratches on the casings. I kept a few of the rejects and will try to post a pic if I can find them. I was guessing a headspace problem but quit trying to roll my own .223 before figuring out exactly what was going on. IIRC for some reason the teeth on the forward end of the bolt that engage the butt of the casing to drive it out of the mag and into the chamber didn't always seem to make contact, but don't know the underlying cause. The scratches were likely due to the teeth on the bolt sliding along the casing and the dent toward the bullet end of the casing when the bolt finally jammed against it "sideways".

Never had a problem with my regular ammo (223 Remington UMC, FMJ, 55 Grain).

ETA: If it helps, one older mag that seemed a little sloppier fit than the others made the problem much worse.

So the barrel does not have LMT on it near the gas block as Greentips mentioned?

What does it say on the magwell of the lower?

You can tell it is a LMT barrel by looking at the stamping - 10.5" LMT barrel is stamped behind the gas block. 14.5"/16" is stamped infront of the gas block. If there is no stamping on the barrel - then it is not a LMT. Also, LMT uses flushed straight pins to fasten the gas block to the barrel.

Did you read the above Ajay?

The CLP or gun oil will work fine. If you're looking for a grease there are many that will do the job. Some are marketed for the firearms community and others are not. Shop around, do some research and pick the one that suits your needs. PM me if you want details on what I use.

thanks

just to clarify. should the barrel be marked lmt or does mine have the proper markings and is just likely cut down to 10.5"?

the lower is marked lewis machine and tool co milan il defender 2000 5.56 mm and the upper is etched in white lmt.

I say remove the gas block and see if the hole is the appropriate size for a 10.5" barrel (this is assuming you have a set of calipers or something else appropriate to measure a small hole). It takes no time at all and may be the culprit.

Your barrel has the proper markings and would NOT be marked that way if it was cut down... you have a proper LMT barrel from what you've described.

Their barrels are not marked with "LMT". What you described as having in your previous post is correct for the 10.5" LMT barrel, it's not likely to have been cut down.

EDIT: cr@p, Mark beat me to it...

good news. went and picked up some 75g 556 today. with a little bit of clp not one singe failure. put about 150 down range. thanks for all the help.
