Ballistics charts aren't neccesarily accurate. You need to go out and test your rifle at various ranges. If you are looking strictly at trajectory then I again suggest the .270 Win. Federal loads a 130gr Trophy Bonded to 3200fps. Flies as flat or flatter but the .300 WM has +50% more recoil.

Buy whatever feels best in a good basic caliber such as .270/.308/30-06. Buy the best glass you can afford and good rings.

I still use my first rifle for everything. Win Mod 70 FWT .308 XTR with Swarovski Z3 in talley lightweight mounts. I have upgraded the glass twice and mounts once.
