First time reloaders first 25 test shells 300 win mag

Brody ,
just a suggestion, instead of trying to duplicate someone else's handload. Why not do yourself & your rifle a huge favour & take everyone's advise on here. Develop a load that your rifle like's, start at a min load and work up . Do a ladder test, then as stated earlier play with your seating depth to tweak your load. You stated that you are going to shoot long range, well do it the right way. It will pay off in the long run, & you also stated that you got your load from a trusted friend & he has been reloading for a while, well I have to ask if he has been reloading for a while, then why would he give you or any body else a over max starting load for a gun that he never did a load development for. Your friend should teach you the right way....The Safe Way......

Cheer's & good luck in your long range quest.

This PM came in:

Hi Ganderite,

Hey do you happen to have any pic's of rifle's that have been blown up from running over the top load's that you might be able to post on that thread where the kid was running his buddies over max load with the .300wm. I don't mean to be a pain in your side, but to be honest. I think it might open that kid's eyes up to what he is dealing with, we might save his life or someone else's.

The guy doesn't have a clue nor does his mentor.

Thanks' in advance.

OK, print this picture out and hang it by your loading bench.

The caption on mine is "What can go wrong?"

Holy face! What would cause something like that to happen?

I got it of the web. I have always assumed he put something explosive in his teeth.

It is a sobering picture. I am not kidding about printing it our and putting it by the loading bench.

I have a small collection of blown up actions (one by me). One is a AR-15 that blew and took out the shooter's eye.

I will look to see if I can find any of them.

OK buddy, that scared the crap outta me. There's no way I'm coming up out of the basement looking like that, and saying to the wife," hey honey look what I just did". I do get your point though.

First time I saw it come around I was told it was a Philipino soldier that crimped a blasting cap onto the fuse by biting it.

As a comparison, we were taught that one kneels down and crimps with a pair of crimping pliers, while holding the cap out behind one's boot soles, because shrapnel wounds on your ass are a lot easier to live with than in your face, and boots are tougher than meat.

God may love ya, but he doesn't give out extra eyes.

YMMV.

Cheers

When I worked at CIL, R & D, I did a lot of work with blasting caps. I never trusted them, and neither did the others i worked with.

One day we had one fire that was supposed to be empty. We were testing the delays in the caps. The tester decided to place a piece of 2x8 plank in front of the caps, "just in case" as he fired them. One day one exploded. These test caps were not supposed to have explosive in them.

Nothing louder than a "bang" that was supposed to be a "click".

Murphy....
