First time shotgun owner...question about sticky action

I used hoppes #9 in a Beretta Pintail once. As soon as it was cold out it acted like it had honey as lube. I used G96 Complete Gun Treatment as lube and boom problem fixed. Since its cold thats a lighter lube. I would try that.

Try the rem oil in the spray can. I find it does a great job and it's not too viscous to be effected by cold etc...
Hope a thorough cleaning with it makes the gun function better.

well it's my first pump action...my experience was stated in the first post...why the wise-ass comments? nothing you've said has been very helpful...I was just wondering if it was the specifically the oil causing the issue...do you have any recommendations other than motor oil?

Floating around on the web is a comprehensive test of about 45 different gun oils. Tests include fir lubrication and rust prevention among others. Winner was Frog Lube. About 4 other really good ones. A lot of well known, very common brands were way down the list. Important to separate marketing from actual performance.

Onf thing I have noticed is anytime there is a issue with guns malfunctioning they always seem to be the entry level ones. Mossberg , Remington express and a couple other brands/ models is there a pattern here .

glad you got it all sorted out. I enjoyed learning from these posts. also, i use g96 based off of a recommendation here on the forum too!

Not really, in my experience it is usually the operator or the ammo. I have found the same with pistols.
Not to say there aren't actual issues from time to time, but IMO the above accounts for the vast majority.

People keep posting about "Hoppe's #9" as if it's all one product. There is the traditional #9 nitro solvent, and #9 black powder solvent, and #9 lubricating oil on the market. So now we all know to avoid the "lubricating oil". Some good has come from one man's misfortune. Thanks for sharing.

It could very well be the Hoppes oil. |Since it works well in the house it sounds like the oil thickening up.
I would take the whole thing apart, use brake cleaner to remove everything (dont get it on wood) then use G96 to lube. I have used it to lube since before my adult kids were born and love it. I have shot at -40 using it with no issues at all.
Good Luck

i have found that if you want to find out what the oil you are using does in cold weather simply leave it out over night in the cold and try pouring it . some oils have the consistency of molasses and almost will not pour.
