Hey nutters, I have a nice Mossberg 590A1 that sadly acquired a 5 inch scratch on the barrel near the receiver, really easy to see- bright metal against black finish. There's nothing like a horrible scratch to make a gun look bad. So, any thoughts or ideas on covering up the scratch ? I've read cleaning with alcohol and then using black permanent marker or sharpie will do the trick or applying several layers of cold blue, or having the whole thing dura-coated (don't want to do that) so thought I'd ask people's opinions, thanks!

It's good to keep the parkerized guns oiled but at some point scratches are inevitable. At some point you can re-parkerize the gun and then gun coat it for better scratch resistance.
Try oiling it and see if that blends the scratch in better......

It does, depending on the depth of the scratch. A1's are made for hard duty so getting used to scratches is pretty normal with the parkerizing, which scratches easily - in my opinion. I bought a 590A1 and right out of the box it had a bunch of light surface scratches which diminished when I oiled it.

Is your barrel parkerized? I've had "scratches" on my parkerized 870 that dissapeared after cleaning it with a Mr clean magic eraser. Turned out they only looked like scratches :/

Try oil and buff lightly with 0000 steel wool.
If that doesn't look ok then get a fine fine artists paintbrush and apply super blue to the scratch sparingly. Then blend with 0000 steel wool inbetween coats.

scratches on my parkerized 870 tend to disappear after a few days as well for some reason? I assumed that is some how filled itself in....?

Embrace it. I do lol.
I don't know how this happened but crown land shooting in August...put the gun down awkwardly and..
