For what possible reason would you intentionally put a bullet into a deers guts, and or ass?
i just threw up in my mouth.
but on a side note, nice clean kill with a classic cartridge.

You sound like the guy I ran into a a gunshop a couple of years back. He was trading in his 30-06 for a 338 Winchester. His reason was that he had just lost a mule deer as the old 30-06 was too "weak" to penetrate into the vitals even though he put 3 or 4 rounds into the lungs ........................
Bottom line is a deer hit in the guts with a "big magnum" will usually be just as lost as one hit with a bullet launched from a lesser round especially if the shooter's tracking skills are as poor as his marksmanship.

This makes me think of a recent article that Craig Boddington wrote comparing the big and slow VS the small and fast. It made me think, as I always have been a big and slow fan, about my concepts on penetration. I really, really like good penetration.

SHe was no yearling- she was the largest doe we had seen in the group of does and fawns...She is no 450 Lb big mulie buck, but she wasn't small..Just looks that way in the pics, since I can make a grizzly look small in pics!
