Flat tops & Fireballs

Yeah but what would of happened if you put the bullet in the hind quarters or the guts. That is where the big magnums really shine.

Yeah, cause a bigger hole in the guts will make a difference.

Why are you shooting deer in the ass or guts?

You sound like the guy I ran into a a gunshop a couple of years back. He was trading in his 30-06 for a 338 Winchester. His reason was that he had just lost a mule deer as the old 30-06 was too "weak" to penetrate into the vitals even though he put 3 or 4 rounds into the lungs ........................

Bottom line is a deer hit in the guts with a "big magnum" will usually be just as lost as one hit with a bullet launched from a lesser round especially if the shooter's tracking skills are as poor as his marksmanship.

This makes me think of a recent article that Craig Boddington wrote comparing the big and slow VS the small and fast. It made me think, as I always have been a big and slow fan, about my concepts on penetration. I really, really like good penetration.:p

Great story and great pics. That yearling should be great eating. :)

BTW ................. what were you doing down here slumming in the Cariboo?? ;) No deer left in the Nechako Valley? :p

gave me an excuse to check out some new country :) and meet Gatehouse somewhere in the middle for a trip. I can take another doe locally next month in a GOS which I may do...and I think I know what rifle to take :D

this flat top was not a yearling, I would guess she is about 3 years old. Cutting her up on Sunday

Damon Killian: There are still two stalkers out there. Dynamo and Fireball. Who do you think will make the next kill?
Elderly Lady: Oh my. That's a tough one.
Damon Killian: Come on, Agnes. You can do it. Who do you think?

SHe was no yearling- she was the largest doe we had seen in the group of does and fawns...She is no 450 Lb big mulie buck, but she wasn't small..Just looks that way in the pics, since I can make a grizzly look small in pics!:)

Man that's original. I bet he's never done that at least a dozen times. Maybe one day he'll do a 'cartridges we can live without' article.

:p

I know what you mean, but being a recent subscriber, I am not bored with him yet. It's got to be tough to come up every month with an original and exciting article...

Gatehouse, don't try to BS us, we all know that both you and your dad are svelte dwarfs and that your doe weighs around 45 pounds.:D

I don't want to cause any problems in your life... and maybe this ain't ma bid-ness... but I would strongly recommend you demand a paternity test before you let your son move back into the basement. LOL!

Great read!
