Looking like our sample is due around the summer sometime. Its going to be a long while before we see approval.

I really hate to be negative here. If this gets past I am in for at least two of these rifles. I love the AK47 and ever since I fired one in the states a few years back I have dreamed of getting one here. But, I thought the Type 81 used a hybrid system based on the SVD and AK-47, it uses a short stroke system similar to the one in the SVD, in which case the RCMP will probably put it on their hit list.

More like an SKS, from what I've read.

Incorrect. Read the article posted earlier in this thread from Guns and Ammo.

EDIT: Just to elaborate, the reason you are incorrect, is because it has both hybrid features and new features that the sks, Dragunov, and AK do not have. There are no interchangeable parts from what I understand, not even magazines. I HIGHLY doubt that this will be classed as a variant. But as we have seen recently, they have classed things as variants based on looks, and not function. Also many rifles incorporate a 'short stroke' gas system that are not variants.

From what I see these won't make it to market into Canada, There way to much like an AK, plus there trigger mech would be really easy to convert over to full-auto... :kickInTheNuts:
It would be cool to have one though..... I miss my ol AK

The Type 81 was approved by the BATF. Nothing goes into the 'States that's "easily convertible".

Besides there is no requirement in Canadian law except to not be full auto...
