Hi folks I'm looking for a little direction please. I am seeking a new (to me) do everything pistol in 9mm near the bottom of the price range ($550 or less). I am looking for a gun to have fun with at the range and want to start doing some steel challenge matches. It doesn't need to look pretty or have a brand name attached to it. I am relatively new to pistol shooting but I have owned a Norinco and Hi-Point in the past. Not knocking those 2 brands but I want to get away from them.

So far I have found a used S&W M&P9 in my price range, I have shot one and really liked it. I have also seen the new FMK 9C1 listed online for under $470.00 and like the idea of not inheriting someones problems.

I am not near a major center where I can go try out a bunch of stuff so handling everything is a no go.

What can you fine knowledgeable folks tell me?

TLDR I want a 9mm for under $550 what do I get?

The two guns you mentioned are both good and so is the SR9. I think the new FMK is a great little gun and certainly merits consideration though I admit I am prejudiced since my company is one of those importing them!

The FMK has a great price point as a new gun with the basic one at $470 and the Enhanced version we are selling for $499. at Epps and The Gun Dealer among others. We add a few features that you might consider over the original - drop free mags, a bevelled mag well, solid guide rod, and some other special things to make the trigger smoother and the gun more reliable as well as suitable for IDPA type competition.

The standard features of the gun that you might consider when you make your choice include: The contoured grip and trigger guard are very comfortable, as the magazines are steel and thus not as bulky as the Glock type, the grip is contoured to fit the hand and not bind the trigger finger plus it has a rubberized back strap to enhance grip especially if your hands are wet or sweaty. The sights are fixed but changeable so you can zero the gun but the sight can't accidentally be knocked out of alignment like an adjustable sight can. It is a striker fired gun so the trigger is like the S&W or Glock if you like that type of action.

One thing we have found is the gun fits nicely into the Blackhawk leather and polymer holsters made for the Glock 17/22 family. We are offering holster/mag carrier packages along with our guns and we have stock on spare magazines.

In addition, our gunsmith went to California to get factory trained for a week on the gun system and we are an approved FMK warranty centre so we can support any issues that come up with our guns directly.

Feel free to contact me directly here or at phil@odell.ca with more questions or for information on the FMK or its availability.

If it was me I'd got for the M&P9 or maybe a used Glock 17. They both have more proven track records (the Glock more so than the M&P) than the FMK 9C1.
