OK, I was doing a little stroll down memory lane but hit a brick wall.

Does anyone remember the characteristics of the FN C1A1 that they made you memorize and recite in the militia.

Started something like....

The 7.62 mm FN C1A1 is a gas operated, shoulder controlled weapon....??

There were about 10 characteristics (lines).

bayonet lug?? 20 round, box type magazine..?? (very foggy)

Lol, I don't remember it completely either.

"Hand held shoulder controlled gas operated magazine fed semi automatic rifle CAF designation FN C1A1..."

ten pounds fully loaded, left hand charging( you daren't use the word cocking, although everyone did) capable of semi-automatic fire- i'm sure there are enough ex-cf types that had the big brute that we can probably come up with all 10 and the stripping instructions - i remember something about a rat=tail

Left hand operated, right hand fired.

Gas operated, shoulder controlled, semi-automatic rifle.

11 lbs. 4 oz with full magazine and bayonet.

20 round detachable box magazine.

7.62mm NATO, 2440 fps muzzle velocity with ball ammunition (I think?)

... and a bunch of other stuff, which has grown dim in my memory...

has a flash eliminator of the slotted tube type.
When I went thru 81-82 we used the word cocking. Never heard the word charging unless it referred to doing the hatless dance in front of an officer.

Rat tail was the bolt..or breech block...ah..the old FN all the great memories...sore check bone if not held correctly:dancingbanana:

What stuck in my mind was "...Rifle 7.62mm FN C1 A1, stands for Fabrique Nationale the Belgian company that designed it, Canada one, Alteration one..."

Speaking of rat tails, one thing I have never been able to comprehend is how the folding stock FNs were returned to battery? Is the spring on the para models around the gas piston, a la Swiss Arms?

its built into the bolt carrier, you change the lower to have the folding stock and the bolt carrier and top cover to allow for the return spring

I think this will help....

left-hand operated, right-hand controlled... which is what the brute was.

A1 alteration was substitution of plastic for wood on the carry handle and the pistol grip.

Spent too much time lugging one of these around. Got older, though about it, got one of the Indian ones, rebuilt it, developed loads for it, just had everything the way I wanted it and the LIEberals sent me a letter sayin that it was a Terrorist Weapon and could no longer be taken from the house.

THEY trained me to use it.... to protect THEIR asses..... and now I can't be trusted with one?

What kind of hole has our country degenerated into, anyway?

If EVERY SINGLE gun-owner in the country voted CONservative, this crap would end.... because the Conservatives DO value a vote, to a point, anyway.

And just a question: WHICH terrorists are using FALs? They are far too expensive in a world full-up with free Klacks.

We are being lied to.... yet again. And so is the entire Canadian public.

I'll run away now and hide. Just brings back memories, though....

Pistol grip wasn't changed to plastic. The other changes included a change in the firing pin diameter due to an issue with pierced primers, elimination of the cooling slots in the hand guards (though they were still in the system right till the end), the take down lever was simplified as well as the mag catch, and some reinforcing shims in the butt stock to prevent splitting. There was something else too but I can't remember it right now.

"Yep, 2750 fps +/- 40 fps"
It was expressed in metres. 840 mps
