FN C1A1 - Prohibited?

An old pic of my FNC1A1 and his buddy the SMG. Don't anyone rat me out, as they aren't in the gun room but on my kitchen table, and could become dangerous at any moment.

- Nice picture of your FN C1. Where is your C2 Bra (Case, Ammo, Mag, 1964)? :)

- I bought two ex-OPP FN C1A1s from "International Interests" in the early 80's. I sold one a few years ago. I had previously bought a Lithgow L1A1 from Lever in 1974, then, uh.. went halfers on several cases of Lithgows from Lever in 1980. We bought them as a public service to our circle of friends, who then bought them from us.

- The CF sent the bulk of it's stored SMGs and FNs (C1s and C2s) to the smelter years back. A few hundred were retained for historical purposes, I believe. The discontinuance of cosmoline as a long term preservative (health issues?) and the lack of efficacy of it's replacement was fodder for conversation after 'The Big Chop', but all that may be 'The Rumour Net'.

International Interests had lots of good toys. I remember Ross W. quite well.
Bought an MP-44 and 1928A1 from them too. They also sold bizzaro stuff from China like 1911s in 7.62x25 and Brens in 7.62x39

The FNs are great, I had a new 8L in the box a few years ago and sold it in a moment of weakness. I got more money from it over 15 years ago than you might receive today.
In the picture of the C1 by paulz I have everything except the scope, carry case, and the sights for the grenade launcher. I have a couple of top covers with a base for the scope assembly, some new (in the wrap) lower receivers. If anyone has the sight for the grenade launcher send me a PM.

How does the FAL series compare to the M14 in terms of weight.

It would be the one MBR I would gladly buy if it was legalized.

all together now-TEN POUNDS FULLY LOADED- which was an outright lie- more like 11or 12- the m14 was 11( supposedly) - either one was downright heavy until you got into action- then you didin't notice

Hungry, TimC & shortandlong, (edit* and koldt) those pictures are truly awesome!
Thanks for sharing.

I have a pair of the OPP C1A1's...bought from international interests...never used them because they are so close in style of the L1A1's from Singapore Police. Had great fun using the L1A1's for years, until the Gvt screwed it up. The L2A1's with the heavy barrels were also lots of fun with the big stablizer on the end of the barrel.

I`ve got the exact same set up except I don`t have the grenade launching attachment. I do have the chrome bayonet and parade whites though as well as the I.R. scope mount.
The top cover attachment for the IWS was for an Image Intensifier sight a later version of the Starlight Scope. We didnt have IR sights in UK service but certainly had IR torches which fitted to a bracket/clamp onto the IWS. With all of that the L4 LMG was a bit wobbly but deadly accurate, 500 yards single taps on to fig 11s in pitch blackness.

Here's a few of the different tops that were on the FNC1.

Close up of the exclusively Canadian dial rear sight.

Shot of the C1 "sniper" scope.

The first infrared scope with monster IR light source on top.

The last "starlight" scope.

Koldt- Have you ever been able to look through those scopes at night, or do they have unobtainable batteries? Just wondering how well they worked, how clearly you could see and how far away?

Welllllll, I own a few of the AN/PVS502s. I think they are great! They use the N battery. Same battery as used with the Eotech scopes (other than the AA model), and are found everywhere.

I've also tested a lot of different NV scopes and can best compare the PVS502, with the U.S., PVS4.

They were manufactured by Varo, now Litton, in Texas around 1972ish. The resolution is approx 28 lp/mm. Not anywhere as good as today's stuff, like the PVS14, of 69 lp/mm. As per any early age starlight, they do have a bit of "fish eye".

All in all, for the money, I've said it a lot of times, these scopes are tough to beat and are perfectly adequate for engaging targets at most distances with very little moon light.

If you check the pic thread of the Swiss rifles, I posted a pic with one of these scopes on the Classic Green, with a Pic rail. The 502 is easily adaptable to any Picatinni rail and for proper eye relief and cheek hold.

The aiming reticule can be changed with any PVS4 reticule, including: 50cal, TOW, CarlG, 7.62(FN,M14 etc), 5.56, US M16reticule, Israeli reticule (that's in this one), and an observers reticule. The reticule is variable brightness and can be turned off, just for viewing.

Today's cost/value, I dunno.

Such a nice rifle , glad some people in this country can keep it alive and away from the schmelter.

Anyone interested in a Canada wide petition to have it removed from the prohibited list on basis of historical significance to Canada ? lol .

unfortuntely, never happen- we can't even get the prohibs on c-68 oics reversed- the fn has been at least restricted since 75, when turdeau was in power

Canadian gun laws make me so sad, I'd do anything to legally own a FAL.

I just want to shower in safety...
