FN P90

From one of the government Memorandum...

"Any rifle, shotgun or carbine stock of the type known as the “bull-pup” design, being a stock that, when combined with a firearm, reduces the overall length of the firearm such that a substantial part of the reloading action or the magazine-well is located behind the trigger of the firearm when it is held in the normal firing position."

So what would happen if you made a new design that placed both the action AND THE TRIGGER several inches rearward? It would be a slightly different feel to the hold of the gun, with your right elbow being bent at a much tighter angle. Sort of like firing a collapsable stock in the retracted position. I haven't tried doing that yet, but I suspect it wouldn't be a big problem. With an 18 inch barrel, and only 8 inches from rear of buttstock to boltface (or end of barrel, if you prefer), you could have a 26 inch gun. Legal? Unrestricted?

This is what I was getting at.

Hi

A dealer did have a FN P90 and a fiveseven pistol on display at the CANSEC show in Ottawa this past April. Got to handle them both. Would not give up my Mk3s BHP for the pistol, but the carbine does feel good when you cuddle up to it  .

Love the CANSEC show. Best perk my job has is being able to go to that show. Between the guns, girls in skirts and stilettos, and the weapons simulators, god what a great way to spend the day. :D

Battlestar Galactica did have P-90's for a short while in Season 1. Me thinks it was for only one episode, though. They seem to be using Beretta Storms now.

They're using FN FiveseveN's for side arms, too. VERY COOL!!!

Awesome show BTW.

As far as I can remember we didn't use our P90's on BSG.....but they may have had them for one day or something.I know there was a lot of talk about NOT using the same guns as SG1.This coming season you'll see lots of guns.Even squeaked in an SA80 at one point.

Oh listen to Mr Fancy Pants

The CFC has even further cleared the definition up with the G22. There view is that if the gun can shoot without its bullpup stock, that stock is prohibited.

That is the prime example of bureacracy gone wrong. It is perferctly legal to own a Walther G22 which is a bull pup design just as long as you don't put the stock on it. As soon as you add the polymer stock it is now an evil assault rifle. In fact all imported G22 still on shelves had to be dissassembeld and sold minus stock.

Your tax money at work.

The CZ store in downtown Prague Czech Rep. had SA80s hanging on the walls for between $600 and $350 Canadian. I was a little shocked to say the least. Heck at that price I was tempted just to buy it so I could have fun with it over there, then throw it away when I had to leave.

P90s saw extensive use by the Marines in several episodes of BSG including the boarding party in the season ender.

The only 5.7x28 ammo currently approved for import to Canada on the Explosives list is blank ammo made by a company in Texas I think for movie use. I assume this came about because of Stargate.

BSG had what looked like Beretta 86s with a plastic body on them for sidearms in the first season. I want to see the new season, damn it! It's my favourite show. :(

Are you sure these weren't airsoft guns? SA80s in private hands are quite rare, and RO only ever made two semi-auto ones, both of which are in the US. They haven't been made since 1993, so I would be surprised if a regular gun shop had some hanging on their wall.

I saw a built as semi (but probably now listed as CA) at a HACS show in BC about 8 or 10 years ago.
Anyone else remember seeing it?

Believe it or not the side arms from season 1 are actually .38 special revolvers in an aluminum clamshell to make them look funky.Pain in the ass to reload...

There are 12(3) SA80s in Canada, I remember Canadians writing in to Handgunner magazine moaning about how the altered trigger mech would break.

There are semi-auto SA80s knocking about also that have been made by converting L98A1 cadet rifles by adding a gas system to them. I've seen one of these in the US, I think it's of dubious legality in the US as the TMH (the receiver) is the same as the full-auto rifle. I suspect it got into the US via Canada, as some L98A1s were shipped over to Canada (which is where most of the ones in private hands in the UK came from).

But there were only two semi-auto SA80s that actually left the factory that way, they were shipped into the US for inspection by ATF prior to import approval... which never happened because they were caught out by the rule changes in March 1989. They're still in the US, ATF still has one of them I think and the other one is in private hands.

It differs from the standard SA80 as the TMH was redesigned, with larger diameter pins for the hammer and sear and a redesigned semi-auto mechanism, obviously.

Ah, but he caught you out.

I like the episode where they storm the prison ship, loads of P90s everywhere.

Whatever happened to that shorty M16 in Stargate? That was sweet. There were a couple of episodes where Colonel Carter was using a short-barrel M16 with an Elcan mounted on it and a Beta C-Mag.

That's Mr. Gate Weasel to you.

I would like to see FN make a simple improvement to the P90 design such as making the forward thumbhole grip into a horizontal forend that is hollow so that one can place a mini mag or other type of light system inside of it...thereby placing the light under the barrel and thusly increasing the peripheral sight picture above the barrel around the sights.

Heck...one could even place other stuff in there such as a modular taser, pepper spray, 12 guage door opener, throwaway rubber slug gun. :D The options are endless

I'm not 100% sure, it's hard to tell when the real gun has as many flimsy parts as the airsoft version.
