Personally, I doubt that anyone will put forward the effort to import them except for movie props. (Battlestar Galactica) If they did, then the issue falls into the same test/trap of the Walther rifle this past year, along with all the headaches.

I'm getting off track, I think they use Storms on Battlestar Galactica and P90's on the Stargate shows. Longshot here on the board works as the Armorer on those show I believe, so I guess he get to play with them for testing

I caught a new episode last night from this season and they are using tricked out Storms and FN 57's. I believe they were using P90's last season.

(I miss Boomer!!!)

Actually, they were using Seburo MN-23's.

One word....

Nerd.

Ah, but he caught you out.

I like the episode where they storm the prison ship, loads of P90s everywhere.

Whatever happened to that shorty M16 in Stargate? That was sweet. There were a couple of episodes where Colonel Carter was using a short-barrel M16 with an Elcan mounted on it and a Beta C-Mag.

Haha!True enough!Unfortunately I don't get to do all the episodes.
That mini AR we made because there was a shortage of 5.7 brass and FN was telling us we weren't going to get anymore. So we built the shorty so that we could just use 5.56.Its a pretty cool piece. We still have 'em but don't use 'em very often. The blast even on 1/4's is quite nasty....and the C mags are sheit.

and RO only ever made two semi-auto ones, both of which are in the US. They haven't been made since 1993, so I would be surprised if a regular gun shop had some hanging on their wall.

I saw a built as semi (but probably now listed as CA) at a HACS show in BC about 8 or 10 years ago.
Anyone else remember seeing it?
That's probably the same one I got to shoot at a range in Burnaby. The person that owned it said it was a L85a1.
I really enjoyed shooting it. It had the SUSAT site on it, very nice.
He used to keep it in his truck all the time like a huntimg rifle. Those were the days.

The CZ store in downtown Prague Czech Rep. had SA80s hanging on the walls for between $600 and $350 Canadian. I was a little shocked to say the least. Heck at that price I was tempted just to buy it so I could have fun with it over there, then throw it away when I had to leave.

Are you sure these weren't airsoft guns? SA80s in private hands are quite rare, and RO only ever made two semi-auto ones, both of which are in the US. They haven't been made since 1993, so I would be surprised if a regular gun shop had some hanging on their wall.

I'd say you should check your info,I know of at least 4 other factory semi auto SA-80s,I myself fired one in 92 or earlier, they were all purchased in Switzerland,I think 2 were brought back to Canada, the others were sold off while still in Europe.

I know for an absolute certain fact they only made two bespoke semi-automatic SA80s. Any others that exist are converted autos, or made from full-auto bits (e.g. cadet rifle TMHs). Wiltshire Small Arms and other companies converted a few dozen to semi-auto, some were exported to Canada. I had one of these. They only actually made two at the factory that were semi-automatic only though.

The TMH is significantly different on the bespoke semi-auto SA80s, there is no selector lever (obviously), but there is also a block welded inside the TMH to stop problems with hammer overtravel, IIRC. Plus the pin diameters are larger on the hammer and sear pins, and the sear has been redesigned.

I've never been clear on the legal status of the cadet rifles in the US, technically it's a bolt-action rifle, but the TMH (receiver) is the same as on the L85A1 so in reality it has a MG receiver. I know some have been imported into the US, I can only assume ATF have never seen an L98A1 up close. I saw one advertised in Gun List that had been converted to semi-auto for $10,000 a few years back.

Yeah, I noticed that she was flinching quite badly in the episode where she was using it. I remember thinking to myself: "Aha - now that's a gun!"

Funny thing, if someone can make a die for the receiver, it is probably non-restricted.

Why not just buy it off H&K? They aren't using it.

Actually I think I might know the guy who has it. I know he bought some of their tooling when the plant closed, not sure about that bit though. He wasn't a fan of the SA80 so I don't think he would have bought it, and I'm not sure H&K actually sold it, but hey, I can always ask if you want.

I suspect H&K held onto it because of support contracts with the Army.

So what exactly defines a bullpup then? A firearm that loads magazines somewhere other than infront of the trigger?

From one of the government Memorandum...

"Any rifle, shotgun or carbine stock of the type known as the “bull-pup” design, being a stock that, when combined with a firearm, reduces the overall length of the firearm such that a substantial part of the reloading action or the magazine-well is located behind the trigger of the firearm when it is held in the normal firing position."

Bullpups are not banned as such (while some are "named" banned), but the add on stocks are.
