FOC creditcard fraud?

My lesson from all of this is to be more aware of what is being changed to my card

It is easy to pile on FOC right now but think of what they were going through. Tens of thousands of online panic purchases over an incredibly short period of time. So much so that they had to close their storefront operation to deal with and keep track of them. Like every other business, the impossibility of hiring competent and trained staff.

I had my card compromised at a gas station. limo service and 2 tickets to sri lanka, I was rather generous. I did purchase from FOC on 4th Nov. So waiting to see what happens there. Worse part getting an new card is all my automatic billing contacts needing to be informed. Pain in the ass

Hey FOC!

Just a heads up that there's some interesting reddit finger pointing going on regarding credit cards being compromised shortly after purchasing from your store online:

https://www.reddit.com/r/canadaguns...ndroidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

May want to triple check that you don't have a compromised system or employee.

EDIT:
I'm on the list of people who were hit. I had made a purchase in the summer and a month later had a compromised card.

It could would be good to spell the name of the company compromised with their credit card system. Terms like FOC mean little to most people. We cannot be in that much of a hurry, can we?

When we purchase online there is a level of responsibility on both ends. The business has to make sure it has a secure system which is typically handled by some other level or business, and we have to be aware of the things that are charged against our cards and ensure that system does not fail us. The fact that credit cards are compromised all the time is a fact and most card companies deal with it as a part of doing business.

Both Personal responsibility and trust has a role here. I cannot fault FOC totally, but yes maybe they should have warned customers, but the shopping cart part of their online business may not be theirs so maybe the role of that warning was left to the company that provides that service.

My lesson from all of this is to be more aware of what is being changed to my card, to utilize an online shopping strategy that minimizes the potential for fraud through 2 step verifications. and using the other security tool available from the company that provides the CC.

Same goes for the company providing their online shopping cart system. It was a pretty easy tie for a hacker to make inroads with the malware sitting on some purchasers computer, so is it any wonder that somethings may have fallen between the cracks. I think really maybe we take the lessons learned and each go our own way and lay the blame where it needs to be. At the feet of Trudeau and Singh.

Lessons learned.

FOC cannot be trusted by any means.

YOU are a obvious shill defending this companies immoral and likely illegal actions since FOC allowed compromised data to continue to be transmitted after VISA alerted them.

Count me in i guess. I got a call from the cc company to ask if i was trying to rent a limo in New Jersey obviously not so the card was cancelled and from the next two days the cc company keep asking me if I was buying anything from the apple store. 17 tries before they quit and i was wondering where the card was comprised now it makes sense i bought a 22 from foc about three weeks before, still waiting on transfer for that

Thinking out loud, but if their computers have been hacked, would that mean PAL and address information would be compromised, too?

Exactly!
That is what I was worrying too. But of course that shady president of FOC came out with a lengthy bull crap type of statement ensuring public that nothing other than cc info was compromised.
Like I believe him?
They will never ever voluntarily tell you anything that you don't know yet.
to me, it's end of the story, I don't even access their website anymore ever.
I urge anyone here stay away from them no matter how good the deal is (they are generally not good anyway)

ha ha definitely not a shill, more of a realist in todays online economy. Keep clutching those pearls

funny and im pretty not the only one that purchased from other sponsors in the same time: and we got cfo# starting number and shipping info when approved withing very reasonnable time and i doubt foc got the volumes like prophet river ....

but you re right it is not their fault ...

As much as I don't wish dropped business with retailers, I think FOC has made several missteps in the last year, the biggest of which has been this one. I didn't connect my own compromised card to FOC until this thread...I had assumed it was another retailer. But the timing fits the FOC breach.

But even if they didn't have this problem, the bigger issue is the erosion of customer service I have seen in the past year, along with a lack of communication. I have had, on three different occasions, shown up at the retail store, waited for 15-30 minutes in that lobby/mantrap, only to find out along with the other customers waiting there, that the retail store was closed due to a "system issue". None of us saw anyone in the store until the one fella came out and told us. They could have put a sign up each time. Or answered their phone...or left a message on the phone indicating the store is closed. These are simple communication steps they could have taken to keep their customers informed.

They were really behind on their transfers, and apparently closed their store for a while to work on these, but other retailers with the exception of a day or two, left their stores open even though they were swamped. Many customers posted threads and messages on here asking FOC what is going on and requesting updates - seems like the communication was inconsistent at best, if at all. Again this could have all been mitigated with more proactive communication.

But I think the straw the broke the camel's back is this breach, the amount of time they knew about it and the fact that immediate action was not taken - even if they could not advise every customer (which I don't buy since there is always a way), at least be proactive and post the breach on sites like this pre-emptively, rather than react once the collective voices of those who were subject to the breach started to inquire.

Word spreads quickly and unfortunately in this case, I think this situation will likely cause permanent reputational damage for FOC, if it hasn't already.

I used a Visa debit to buy a pair of AR7 mags and had two fraudulent attempted charges a week later. Had to cancel my card and wait a week and a half for a new one. Luckily, I had just enough cash to scrape by, but it was rough.

How does one close their FOC account and Tenda as well?

I just changed my account to have a gibberish name and address and removed all other personal details. I also changed my email address to one that is meaningless. It is one I can remember should I ever need to log back in to their site.
I did the same at X-Reload

Hey there!

You seem to not be able to properly navigate a forum as this is literally posted in the Firearms Outlet Canada section of canadiangunnutz. As this post was directed to Firearms Outlet Canada in their own section, the FOC short hand was used.

If you have difficulties figuring out where something was posted, look above and you will see:
Forum > sponsoring business members forums > firearms outlet Canada (ajax, ON) > FOC creditcard fraud?
This string indicates where a post was posted in the forum.

You're welcome btw. If I was in that much of a hurry I would have just left it on reddit instead of bringing it here.

I made a purchase from FOC on Oct 25. Less than a week later my CC was compromised. Numerous unauthorized small charges followed by a larger purchase. Thankfully it was noted right away and card was cancelled and fraud dept notified.

Interesting that I stumbled onto this post on my first visit to the forum. You can add me to the list of compromised cards shortly after a purchase.
