Hi all,

With all these hot 10/22's I'm seeing lately I've decided to take the plunge again...

I just wanted to know what a standard 10/22 with the Butler Creek Folding stock (folded) Overall Length is in order to make some shopping decisions. :)

Thanks in advance.

Actually I was wondering if I am over with the Compact version (16" barrel)... I think I will be with a FH installed :)

Really?

I thought that the Flash Hider does count for OAL... I thought it was barrel length where FH's don't count.

I preaty sure with the 16" barrel it will be under 26". The flash hider dose not count for over all length.

Compact barrel the OAL will be ~25"
Flash Hider would have to be permanently(ie welded) attached to count in OAL.
Standard barrel works fine, around like ~27" OAL

I called CFC a long time ago about welding a FH to Non-Restrict a Beretta Storm. I was told that welding a FH does not ADD to barrel length; the reason being that the rifling needed to be continuous.

Now for OAL, I don't see why a FH would not be considered since it is OAL we are concerned with (not barrel length).

I will call tomorrow to get confirmation :)

That makes perfect sense to me...sounds about right.

Ok... just got off the phone now with some techie at Ottawa... get ready for the SHOCK of the year!!!

Anyone who owns a Folding stock on a 10/22 (or any other firearm) has a Restricted 10/22 regardless of length. Did you get that? Folding Stock on Non-Restricted firearm = Instant restricted firearm.

So... I told her that for decades people have had folding stocks on non-retricted rifles (not just the 10/22)... she chuckles and says "Well... it's up to whoever is interpretting the law at the time, but I am telling you today that the official word is Folding Stock = Restricted firearm."

I don't know if this is an ottawa thing, but it's pretty nutz.
I didn't ask but maybe it is just for aftermarket folding stocks? Because I know the Non-Restricted SIGS come with folding stocks, correct?

Anyway, some craziness for sure.

By the way I was transferred 3 times and on hold for 30+minutes to get this "ruling."

Ask her to send you this "rule" in writing.
Hey, guess what, she can't, because it's bull####.

She is wrong. Adding a folding stock to a gun does not meet the definition of a restricted firearm, as long as the overall length is not less than 660 mm. Her "interpretation" is completely unfounded.

this flash hider thing throws back years to when the m1 carbine was being defined- the final ruling was that the flash hider DOES NOT contibute to barrel length , and the barrel must one countious unit( ie one piece)

Ugh... I am tempted to call again tomorrow to see what kind of answer I get.
Good idea on asking for it in writing.

And I suppose the Grizzly-MAG I just bought is also restricted now...

Her wrongness is appalling. If I were that wrong about something related to my job, I'd be fired.
