For those of you with CZ SP01 Shadows....

I clean it around 500 rds or when I'm in the mood.. it never FTF's but I bet you could shoot a 1,000 and it would still function fine

Same here, we have 2 Shadows and 500-700 is typical. I spoke recently with Mike Burrel and he cleans his guns every few thousand!

wait your guys guns make it back into the safe? man my competition ones dont even make it that far between range trips

Yeah, but I've seen you in action. You're a RANGE SLUT! ! ! ! Any range, anywhere, any time.... :D

My semis get cleaned approximately once every 500'ish. I've gone a little farther now and then and suffered some feed failures with my rimfire guns since they are not as tolerant of gunk buildups. And in the case of revolvers they get cleaned when it becomes sticky to shuck or load the chambers.

In the case of my two CZ's it's more a situation where I pull back to check for clear and a little voice in the back of my head says "EEEUUUUW! ! ! ! IT'S FILTHY IN THERE! ! ! ! It's also about at this point where the trigger actually begins to feel less than "ball bearing like" which confirms that it's time to clean the gun.

what's this cleaning we are speaking of??
man if I cleaned my gun every 300-500 rounds I'd be cleaning it twice at the range at least.
Even my match gun goes to at least 1000-1500 before it gets cleaned, lubed a couple times in there though. My practice gun, I lube it maybe once or twice a month then clean it when it starts to feel sticky. which is usually around 4000 rounds at least. Depending on the month that could be a week though.

It'll all depend on what ammo you're using...

I've stuck with Bullseye powder... Not exactly the cleanest burning propellant, but that said...

I've had my SP01 for msybe 3 years and I've probably only given it a good cleaning twice.
Probably 2000-3000 rounds between cleanings...

they clean AND put guns into the safe, clearly they arent at the range enough

Aren't you guys worried about corrossion on the metal?

I understand the majority of the slide is coated on many firearms but I still get paranoid about pitting and damage occuring with powder residue by-products in contact with the metal in the all the little crooks and crannies.

I completely strip and clean after each firing, but I've read enough forums to know that there's a school of thought that this is overkill.

Also, for the chap who had the CZ feed issues, I used to have the same problem but I start oiling the slide a touch before the range and also keeping the gun locked with the action open. I guess CZ's come a little "over-springed" which require a few thousand rounds before they ease into it, or keeping the spring under tension during storage.

Lubing it will extend the round count before the big Spring clean...your gauge is the extractor... when you can't see its notch because it's filled with crud, then it's time to clean... until then, oil is your friend ;)

Rub the frame with oil? When it goes back to the safe. I love the feel of pulling out a nicely oiled pistol. Plus, my basement's kinda humid and I don't want to worry about rust. As for a field stripping and a full cleaning? Whenever I feel like meditating on something and the range is closed.

I'm actually testing my wife's cz to figure that out, she's at 800 rounds now. I'm not gonna clean till till it fails to feed or eject or something starts to feel weird. And I guess that'll tell me the answer to that.

Sounds a bit much, that gun is a mac truck, those czechs make firearms that dont require much cleaning or maintenance, but hey it's your gun, clean it how you like it.

wow, I am far to nice to my firearms. I clean them after every use... on the bright side, i dont have any ftfs.

I clean it after each usage. I consider a firearm normal condition should be clean and ready to serve its purpose. Does it affect the normal operating conditions if not clean? Yes. After how many rounds? Don't know and don't intend to learn. Plus, those of you who served in the Forces, how much time did you spent on this activity?

Guess how many gun related problems I've had in the last 27,000 rounds? Yup, none. I had one mag that I had to adjust the feed lips on as the rounds could come straight out if you pulled on them. I've had a dozen or so rounds with no primers or backwards primers.
ost pistol ammo is non corrosive so I'm not sure where the idea that you need to worry about corrosio comes from. Keepp em lubed and they will run fine.

Sounds good and how often do you clean ?
