For you AR haters!

The US already allow Colt Canada makes Colt firearms under license in Canada for approved military and police end use, now they are going to do the same thing in Malaysia. Who said anything about Malaysia selling them to civilians? The US always controls end-use of its defence technologies, I see nothing to indicate otherwise here.

Yes but Colt Canada abides by the rules the US lays down. How long do they really expect the Malaysian goverment or the local company producing them to follow the rules. :D

If you open up the computers that you are reading this on you will find that some of the major parts are Malaysian... they have a very good high tech manufacturing industry and should have no problems making what ever they want.

I think the poster was joking about not knowing the location of Malasia or Malaya as is used to be known. My Dad's friend killed a lot of CT's there during the Emergency.
That country obviously hasn't done their homework; they should have purchased the H&K G-36 and the rights to make it locally as did the Mexicans. Some third world countries have better small arms than us as in G-3's, G-36's, HK-21E's MG-3's like Mexico.

Hmm, I wonder if NAFTA could get us some inroads toward acquiring some reasonably-priced Mexican G36s. :D

I know after seeing Malaysian metalurgy first hand I will not buy a Malaysian made M4 or any other firearm for that matter. We had some somewhat complex tubes made in my Oil upgrader that could have either been made in Germany and or Malaysia and of course my company bought the cheap malaysian garbage. It failed almost immediately within 5 mins and we ended up having to order from Germany. Once the German tubes were installed lasted the past 2 years no issues. So from personal experience I wouldn't recommend anything requiring some metalurgical skill that comes from Malaysia.

Many of the so called "backwoods" , such as Malaysia, have the capability to manufacture most anything. The big problem lies in the quality of the product.

I've heard time and time again of companies buying the cheaper, foreign made parts only to switch back to the North American or European parts after quality issues.

As my wife is Malay and Muslim I will chime in here, Malaysia is here:

the country is a mix of Malay’s (Muslims), Chinese and South Indian (Tamil) Technically the country is a secular Islamic state, the logic governing this concept is similar to our firearms act. The Muslims are subject to Sharia law, while everyone else is subject to a mix of British common law and the constitution.

The NW states are the most Islamic and have elected state governments that has harassed non-Muslim. Northern Malaysia is suspected of being the safe operating base for Muslim extremists killing and terrorizing in southern Thailand. Also noted that many Islamic terrorist have been known to meet and plan in Malaysia, it would be considered their R&R spot mostly. Looking at my wife’s photo album, very few Malay Muslim woman wore headcovering in the 60’s and most walked around in the traditional Sarong with bared shoulders, it is due to the extremist Whabbi influence they feel obliged to cover up, otherwise they will be arrested by the morality police. It’s my opinion that the average Malay Muslim is very laidback and requires constant incitement to maintain any level of radicalization, it must drive the Arab nutbars nuts! Also note teaching any version of Islam than Sunni, will get you tossed into jail or worse, trying to convert a Muslim to Christianity will get you the same.

My Muslim name you ask? It’s: “Colin NoBin Prayin”
I belong to a small sect where we believe consuming bacon washed down by Guinness brings one closer to Allah!

As for the gun bit, Malaysia procurement process is all about who gets their palms greased or who has a favourite toy. Their military equipment is a Hodge pod of kit.

A long thread on the subject

Pakistanis contributed tanks. Malaysians chipped in with their armoured cars but they had to be 'persuaded' at gun point to get them leaving their compound and into the meat grinder street.

You might be reluctant to go out in those Condor armoured cars as well,
