Found a hunting stand on my property

DON'T PISS HIM OFF? WOW, doesn't matter if he's there more often then you or not, he is still on private property, your land, I would put signs and leave a note for him to get his stand back and have a discussion if he ever call to pick it up ..

Other people I've known tried the F-u routine only to find tractors, implements and crops destroyed. I was suggesting you take a more subtle approach. I am 99.9% sure they know they are breaking the law, obviously it doesn't bother them.

If you can IDENTIFY the tresspasser then a call to the cops is the best thing to do. If you dont know who it is or cant find out persistantly annoying the a-hole without pissing him off is your best bet. Kinda like a chess game.

Ruin his hunting days and he WILL leave. I think removing his stand, placing it where he enters your property is a good first step.

If its a wood home made one remove it and burn it. Or like some have said , just cut down the tree.

My experience anyway, you dont want a pissing match.

I think you've done the right thing. You've made it obvious you don't want him on your property without being pissy about it. I would however request that he fixes your fence so as to diswade other hunters from following his quad tracks in.

Was"nt that some guy in the US who resently shoot and killed eight hunters over a location of a hunting stand ?

It is very easy to wander into private land while hunting. Often there are no visible fence line. Please give and take politely.

Starts to sounds like Native blocade to me :)

I don't think this is a case of the fella not knowing he had crossed a property line...He may have had approval from previous owners. It would be understandable if he hadn't crossed a fence line. That should at the very least make you suspicious that you are crossing property lines.

Anyways I was up at our 80 acres cutting our trail to get to this large swamp that diagonally cuts through the property at the center. It actually looks like a couple of drunks cut the trail the way it winds and weaves its way through the bush.Anyways we thought the hell with this we are going to see how far away we are so we flagged are way to the swamp with marking tape.Once we made our way to the swamp we (My wife and I) looked across and seen a tree stand hanging in a tree.I thought wtf,and went over to see if there was a name on it which there wasn't.There was a well used quad trail that ran from the property to the south into the adjacent property to the north....On the north side I put up a barricade where the fence wire had been broken or cut...

I had this happen alot when I was outfitting and hunted both private and crown land. Some guys are just to lazy too look for good spots on thier own. If they find someone is hunting there then they think this must be good I am "pitting in" Some guys can be real loser's. I hope it works out and don't think this guy is a representative of the sport. Alot of people have probably seen your place but respect that it is yours and won't hunt there.

Yes appartently the guy to the south of me bought up a section or two scattered around the area as well as the 80 acres just south of me last Nov/Dec. I purchased my property in Jan.It could be a misunderstanding that he might know he has new neighbors, who want to keep their little sanctuary theirs. For all I know the stand might not even be his.It could be somebody who is checking out prime hunting locations without anybody knowing, until now. This weekend I will type up a letter requesting that he remove his stand.I will leave my phone number in case he might want to hunt bear or did get drawn for elk, because I didn't.As long as he is not cruising all over the property, littering, poaching and the stand is gone by deer season no problem.I am not into getting into a pissing match, and definately don't want to make enemies with someone I don't even know.By the way he does not live in the area I am thinking that he lives about 40 minutes away.As I have already talk to the old owner to find all this out. Thanks for the replies.

Sounds more than reasonable to me. If he doesn't respond well to that offer, there's something wrong with him.

I found one on my property 2 years ago about a hundered yards from my own. i cut the tree down carved private keep out into the trunk and kept the stand . they havent been back.

If you bought it in January Maybe he had permission from the previous owner and is not aware that it has changed hands. Being nice would be the first step, that is until being nice isn't working then implement plan B.

Plan "B" = Can of Whoop-ass:)

I would say you are being very reasonable & senseable about it:)
I would be surprised if it doesn't turn out good.
If not the guy must be a jerk-off, in which case a few phone calls to the police after you have found out his name would be in order.

Not in my nature to think this way, but perhaps he doesn't know that it is private property and is not the owner of the adjacent land but an acquaintance that was told to " go hunt at the swamp " by the adjacent owner.

It could be a complete misunderstanding that the stand is where it is.
...did I just say that?

Personally, if I was that guy, I would more appreciate a note telling me that I am on private propert and to call such and such a no#.

Is it a constructed stand? or a purchased one? something that would stay there all year round, and not get visited till opening day...the hunter would be pretty pissed opening day to find the stand gone and may run your bush to wreak havoc with his ATV.

If your note doesn't work, then you gave them a chance and can take it to the next level. Take a picture of the note staple to the tree.

Good luck with it.

Re-found a hunting stand on my property

Well anyways was out at the property this weekend finished cutting the trails.
Actually the brother in law broke the bushwacker, good help is hard to find.We
come back to the trailer and find a note with the landowners (my southern nieghbor) name and number regarding the tree stand. We tried contacting him
but never did get ahold of him. This morning (Sunday) he pulls up and has a chat with me regarding the stand since he was out archery hunting for elk.
We had a good talk he said he would take down the tree stand no problem .I told him he can keep it there till muzzleloader deer.
He then asks me if I would be interested in buying the 80 acres he owns to the south of me.Well it looks like I am off to the bank to re-mortgage the house since I just bought a quad on friday.
All in all the whole situation turned out excellent,He was very appreciative that I didn't touch the tree stand since someone has already stole one off his own property.:)
