Howdy,
I came across an older Winchester model 52. From what I can determine it looks like maybe 1946 mfg. Ser. no. 55***. It is in pretty good shape. It has a rear target sight made by Veaver ( not sic, it is not a Weaver) the sight is milled into the top of the receive by a large dovetail; looks somewhat strange to me, but I think I have seen this before. The action is tapped on side for sight as well. Has sling and handstop. These are really quite nice rifles w. a solid action. Was going for $800. Not an Annie, but nice American make. Anybody have any info on this model and worth? Thanks for looking.

This seems wrong.
The serial # range is 1946 however the milled receiver (flat top) was slowly phased out during the early B series. According to my book it could be special ordered however.
I have seen nothing on the late B or C model having the flat top receiver.
Does this rifle have the bbl band and long stock? Also where is the safety located?

Win 52

Hi Don,
The receiver is still round on top and not flat, but has dovetail milled out for the sight base. From memory, it has long stock, and I think bbl band. Don't remember about the safety.

FWIW, Gerry Ouellette used a 52 to set the World record in Melbourne at the
1956 Olympics- a 600-60X - borrowed the danged rifle from Gil Boa because his stock cracked!!

The serial number doesn't seem to jive with the description of the gun.
There should be a letter in the serial number.
With a long stock and barrel band it sounds like an "A" or pre A.
From what I've read, no letter in the serial makes it a pre A.
Too much money for a Pre A or even an A. I know you don't see a lot of 52's around but I gather the very early ones don't go for the same money as the later ones.
And being drilled for a side mount lowers it's value even more.

Spend some time searching the net, Rimfire central and such and you can find out pretty much anything you want to know on them.
Found out my 52 E was the first gun of the rack in 1968.
