We missed you this year.
There were a few guys not able to attend this year that it would have been nice to catch up with; bybenn, redsoilreaper, ninepointer and cintax. Hopefully you can make it out next year.
It was nice to meet some new guys this year. This was our best turn out so far.
And WOW, what a display of doubles. Absolutely fantastic.

John, yours and Stephen's collections were the standouts of the day. I know the Jeffries won the Best Gun but all of your guns were great, although I have a soft spot for that George Daw. Thanks so much for making such an effort to be there. I know it's a long drive from London. BTW, I also loved the vintages cases.
Stephen, like John, I know you drove a long way. On behalf of everyone, thanks so much for making the time and effort. It was a stellar display of some amazing guns and history. I'm sure you just won over a dozen or so new customers for the book when it comes out. Sure hope we see you again next year.
I’m already looking forward to next year’s event!
Something we may want to consider for the future is a sxs sporting clays type shoot in addition to our usual event. Just another excuse to get together and get these guns singing. Just a thought for now fellas but we can think about it

2018 Double Gun Classic Best Gun

1870’s Lincoln Jeffries including 12g and 10g Barrels
This gun was purchased by Dr. Woodruff of London, Ontario while at a medical conference in London, England. It includes his hand-written loading instructions on hos office letterhead dated 1890. The stock is one piece like a muzzle loader and the hammers require half-cocking to break open the gun since locks with rebounding hammers had not yet been invented.

Somehow I get the feeling that these pictures don’t do that beautiful piece justice! Would love to have seen that one. Great job on the award as well, start of a neat tradition.
Not really the start. There have been previous winners. Here is one. It is a Manufrance Ideal 6R EE and it won in 2015. It tied for second this year as well:
Additionally, in 2016 we had a beautiful Fox HE (Super Fox) take the top spot and last year it was a D grade Parker, IIRC. There are some spectacular guns turning up for this event and we expect an even better turnout next year. For those of you who have an interest but haven't made it, make sure to mark it on the calendar for next year and join us. It's a great day now that Patrick isn't scheduling it on the coldest days of the year.

If I was a couple thousand K’s closer I’d be there for sure. Love seeing these treasures out. That manufrance is superb. Really developing an attraction to them.

LAJ, those fuzzy pics I provided to VictoryXC were doing my gun a kindness. Part of its appeal to me and I guess others is how many stories can be imagined by looking at the leather and oak case plastered with British rail stickers. I cannot fathom how many hunts it has been on during the heyday of sport shooting. Or how many birds must have fallen to it in the course of wearing the checkering right off the wrist. The stock shows proudly the stains from previous leather cover, and dings and scratches from resting against the gunwales of rowboats. It will never be restored to pristine at least not for the long time I intend to have it.
I do love that Manufrance though.
I sure enjoy hearing about this annual get together and of course, the pictures. Too bad it's so far from BC or you would have more participants, me included. Our club, the South Cariboo Sportsmans Association, is holding our fourth annual Side By Side Sporting Clays Challenge this weekend, June 9 and 10 in Cache Creek. Saturday is for side by side guns only, two rounds of 50 birds each, Sunday also two rounds of 50 each but open to any gun. This is a fun shoot, no big entry fee, no big prizes, just loads of fun and lots of great guns on hand, some of which rarely see daylight. Still room for a few more participants. Victoria has also been doing something similar for about 4 years but more like a Vintagers event.
Ashcroft, great to hear about that shoot. Sounds like lots of fun. It is too bad we are all so spread across the country but glad to hear some other folks are getting together to enjoy these fine old (and newer) guns. Post some pics if you get any and we'd love to hear a report.
It's going to be a very busy weekend here but I'll try to get you a few pictures. Our range was devastated by the wildfires last year and we're still trying to get this new course set up two days before the shoot. We can shoot black powder here ( and some will ) so there will be a broad spectrum of guns in use, from very early hammer guns through many British boxlocks and sidelocks to American classics like Parkers and LC Smiths and modern Spanish, Italian, Japanese and German guns, you never know what will show up. That Lincolne Jefferies is amazing, especially in the original case. It could be the only side swing Jefferies in Canada. And I love that Manufrance too, marvelous guns but with anamazingly poor safety.
