Fox 20g project pictures of the week

I didn't know you could change blued steel to French grey but this has me seriously considering sending in my sweet little Browning SA.22 for some work. It has been a favorite grouse and bunny rifle of mine for many years and the bluing is showing signs of wear and I was never a fan of the Browning high gloss on the stock.
That being said I could see the rifle receiver done in French grey with engraving of a grouse on one side and a snowshoe hare on the other with engraving on the trigger guard , the top of the receiver and the metal but plate also grey. The barrel I would have done in a deep rich blue and the stock redone in a nice matte finish.
Does this seem reasonable or am I off my rocker??. I think it would look great and be admired and hunted with by my kids and Grandkids for many years.

Nope, not off your rocker. Just know that the cost of doing it will be far more than any financial return you might get if you were to sell the gun. You might be surprised at the cost, is all I'll add.

Thanks everybody, I cant wait to see it done, But that kind of work takes time, and that way I got more money in my pocket for a little bit longer. 😉

Not planning to sell, I sent them an email asking what I posted above. I would have about a grand, perhaps a wee bit more to spend so we shall see.
Thanks for the help. Will keep you posted.

You might get it all done, but the engraving, for a G note. The engraving would cost more. All depends on how nice a bunny and a grouse you want and what you want on the trigger guard but an additional $1000 would be reasonable to budget for until you’ve worked it out with the craftsmen who might do it.

Thanks Canvasback, that is more than likely the case . The stock would only require a stripping of the thick gloss and the application of an oil finish. But I am considering the rest. I LOOK forward to talking to the artists and will report back in a different thread.

IMHO, the guy to start with is a member here and has been a big part of this upgrade. His name is Chris Dawe and here's his website:

http://stillwaterrestorations.ca/

I'm a bit annoyed he has only one or two pics of guns of mine on there. LOL

Addiction is a hard thing to live with, I always tell myself, that is the last one, the problem is a got to many last one in the safe ;)

John , I barely have mine under control. It's only by corrupting newbies to the addiction that I can avoid indiscriminate purchasing myself. Just ask Patrick. Without him, I'd probably have four or five more guns in the safe.

Hey, what the hell!?!? Its because of Patrick that I have have four or five more guns in my safe. So your saying that was your fault?!?

You had best add another g-note minimum. I spoke with them myself about a project I want and what you are looking at would compare to some pics they sent me comparing having a couple panels done to more detailed full coverage. The panel pics they sent were very nice work but not the intricacy of the fox in this thread and were double your budget.

Very good advice by Gunsaholic (The only way to keep within budget when partaking in a gun project is if you don't have a budget!)

Sorry to jump on this thread a bit late. Just want to take the chance to thanks John for his trust on this project... because the only direction line was a classy strong style pheasant - fox theme and he gave us 100% support. Paul have so much more to offer than an old picture duplication... the same for Chris making an improved version of any stock style or checkering pattern. We are really really lucky to have customers, like John, giving us the opportunity to challenge our skills.

Also thank you for all the good words! For those wondering... we had a bit more than 5 weeks on this project including one week of metal preparation and design. All gold inlays are 24 K. We will have also half a day for cleaning and slightly repolishing the parts after mister Kob french gray.

We are now in the same seat as you waiting to see Chris Dawe magic!!!

Christian, welcome to the forum. You know many of us have used the services of and think very highly of Chris and Oskar. Over the last year as your work has become visible to us, we can add you and your team to that list. It has been a particular pleasure to see the engraving process progress over the weeks as Paul worked on the gun and we have you, John and Paul to thank for letting us see it.

Thank you! We feel very fortunate to work with Chris and mister Kob.

I always been told that canada was a small market... but working this way as a team allow us to manage any challenges! I very like the steps pics showing all the process... we are all fans of each others ;) Paul simply do the most naturaly of the world things we just dream of. I was his apprentice when i studied in Belgium... became great friends but still a student of his art!

Well , thanks or no thanks to you folks I talked with Christian today after a few emails and ,,,,, well ya, I doubled my budget and am excited to be working with these fine artists. I was very pleased with how patient Christian was with my questions and the flexibility allowed for payment as the project goes along even if it takes a little longer and that has this gun nut very happy..
Will update as things come along but we are looking at removing the Browning shine from the stock , rebluing the barrel and giving the receiver a French grey treatment and some nice engraving with game scenes on both sides.
Thanks guys for the inspiration.
