2 questions;

1. i have read conflicting things and heard such, are they legal in Canada?

2. where can i get some for reloading?

just generally plinking rounds. or what ever is the cheapest!

if target sports allows it, i could make it affordable to shoot .223 and make it feasible to get a AR! target wants $30 for 20 rounds of frangible.

can't seem to find any sponsors that have it listed on their site, any ones in particular? i'm in Ont.

Assuming we are talking real frangible bullets and not just hollow points, yes they are legal. No idea where to buy for reloading, though.

For those wondering:
A frangible bullet is one that is designed to disintegrate into tiny particles upon impact to minimize their penetration for reasons of range safety, to limit environmental impact, or to limit the danger behind the intended target. Examples are the Glaser Safety Slug and the breaching round.Frangible bullets will disintegrate upon contact with a surface harder than the bullet itself. Frangible bullets are often used by shooters engaging in close quarter combat training to avoid ricochets; targets are placed on steel backing plates that serve to completely fragment the bullet. Frangible bullets are typically made of non-toxic metals, and are frequently used on "green" ranges and outdoor ranges where lead abatement is a concern

Just looking on Remington's website, they have 4 different types of hollow point in .223 .Just gotta look a little.;)

Not looking for hollow point, I'm looking for frangible. Copper powder bullets . someome was selling loaded Remington ones before but it was still expensive.

Barnes MPG bullets are true frangibles. As are Barnes Varmint Grenades (though not against varmints from what I've read; still disintegrate against steel.)

I've seen Varmint Grenades at many retailers and MPG's are available from cabelas.ca (don't know of any sponsor retailers specifically that sell them.)

I don't recall seeing true frangible projectiles as reloading components anywhere. Suspect they require a special press setup to avoid damaging the projectiles when seating.

All sorts of varmint-grade projectiles available if that will do the trick...

Range restriction?

Reloading International in the USA sells them and they specialize in properly exporting from the USA, I have bought from them before and it went very well, their International Orders tab lays out exactly what paperwork is required for your purchase.

All international orders require a signed purchase order, either an import certificate or signed letter from you verifying that import certificates and permits are not required, and an end-user statement. Once these forms are submitted it typically takes 1 - 2 weeks to receive the export license. The export license fee is 10% of the total of all items on the purchase order that require an export license.

SinterFire 22 Caliber 45 grain WTP 100/box [SF223-45] $17.68

SinterFire 22 Caliber 55 grain WTP 100/box [SF223-55] $21.84

Unlike traditional ball lead projectiles, which ricochet or fragment into large pieces, SinterFire® frangible, lead free projectiles literally crumble to dust upon impact with surfaces harder than themselves. SinterFire® projectiles are perfect for close quarter steel plate shooting and tactical operations. A full embodiment of a proprietary lubricant provides increased velocities at reduced pressures, reduced bore wear and minimized bore fouling. The molded-in taper crimp design provides bullet/case retention and promotes functional reliability. WTP=Wide Taper Point.

Budget Shooter Supply has 50gr varmint grenades in .223, works great vs bottles of water. Been looking for a su-16 to compliment my AR so I can test them out on ground hogs.

JR at the "Shooting Edge", has true Law enforcement frangible ammo by RUAG. It is very expensive and has a specific purpose. Anti personel with no secondary projectiles.. Meaning you can engage a soft target in a crowded area..like a hostage situation...and the bullet will not leave its intended target....I believe its call "Stix" in .308

Shooting Edge owns Target Sports so more then likely its the same expensive line of ammo he is avoiding

I read an article about 'Contractors' using them against insurgents in Afganistan. I recall the part about shooting an insurgent in the butt with one... DRT.
They are the new exploding bullet. Banned for war I'd bet, but police actions seem to play by a different rulebook.

thanks, i will check for some MPG's that seems like it will be the easiest way to get them without hassle.

just have to make sure target will approve.

(it's a pistol certified range only) so they have .223 but only frangible crap is allowed.
