Fraud/Theft Nightforce Scopes

Should have bait the seller to meet face to face and catch the bastard....Now u have an eBay acct but it can be easily claimed to be hacked.

Not without an warrant.... doubt any cop or judge will go through that trouble for this.

So far the Edmonton Police Service have been excellent and are trying to go as far as the distant location will allow. So far no contact at all back from police in Laval. Phil.

Wow, some team of investigators this bunch would make. Not even the correct model number f:P:

Is that ebonics?

You go girl! Hahaha

Based on your investigative techniques, you'll be at this for a while. Be sure to keep us updated on your presumptions, oversights and misinformation. Looking forward to another good laugh. Lol

Please note that the model number of one of the scopes has been corrected. I mistakenly gave C555 when it should have been C545. I confused this with the third scope that was not shipped. AS stated previously the the serial number has been confirmed as the one previously listed on Ebay . Phil.

Maybe a bit more patience and a little less LOLZ would be wise.

As I said I wouldn't discount the seller in Quebec. Shady as hell that was.

Just because he has a 100% rating over 10 years doesn't mean he's not ripping people off. He may very well have a clever system set up.
If I wanted to rip people off I'd make a fence account and jack the rating up with numerous small ####ty purchases over time so it's less suspicious when I drop a stolen $3300 item on there.

Phil I hope leval police get their head out of their ass and help out. Thanks for putting yourself on the line and posting this as an important reminder to stay vigilant. If he's selling weapon parts (address you sent the scope to) he may very well be selling weapons. I'd consider getting the CFO and RCMP involved.

My disappointment in this matter was that several dealers were hit previously with similar scams recently ,some by the same person, but there was no public (or private) communication with other dealers. Some dealers may be reluctant to share this info for whatever reasons but I feel the one thing that should be openly shared is bad customer information involving criminal activity. This fraud and theft hurts everyone be they retailers or consumers. I have had PM's and phone calls from many competitors who have openly shared their past problems and their ways of combating these criminal acts. Thanks to all who have given specific and general support. Phil.

Phil, we notified Nightforce of fraud with the expectation that they would advise dealers - obviously they did not!

Agreed on bad customers - but we do not know who they are in these instances.

Peter

Well, I have seen many scams, even on Amazon, after I got tired of Ebay. Here on CGN and other sites. I am very careful and I got screwed for $300 EMT. These scammers are scamming more end user customers then retailers. I will never send EMT again, it is ridiculous. The cops and bank will tell you do not send EMT to anyone except your family. It seams like money laundering operation. The banks know where the money goes, but wont tell you. It is just a friggen fraud. I only use Amex. I have NEVER had problems with them. So if the retailers don't take Amex, or (FRAUD ALERT), I do't buy. I work too hard for my money.

So the question for the retailers is: Have you ever got let down by AMEX?

Premium Elite Visas and Mastercards charge retailers premium rates equaling AMEX. I do not want to get in a p.....g match on here about credit card charges. I just want to know from the retailers if they got let down by Amex.

Yes! In my opinion Amex is the worst. In 2007 I hand delivered 6 custom rifles to a client ( word used loosely) to him in South Africa that had been paid for with Amex.
3 weeks later Amex clawed back the money stating that their customer claimed he had not received the goods. despite absolute proof of delivery to the guy who was named in the import/export permits and the credit card, Amex told me i could only sue the guy in S.A.
This is the reason we will never take Amex again.

I agree!! There should be a private page on CGN where dealers can share info regarding these sorts of occurrences.
I was also thinking of posting the persons intel on our webpage. However after thinking a bit it dawned on me maybe the name, address and so on were also stolen.
I don't need a suit for defamation added to the rip off we just encountered. I would also hate to smear so victim of identity thefts reputation.
Hopefully CGN's administration will see fit to help us dealers out with this by offering a forum to the dealers to share this sort of information on.

Are you guys looking for Hero Cookies for trying to "Crack the case"?

Maybe you guys trying to "help out" should leave it to the authorities and experts. As for anecdotes, you guys screwed up the model number, made the presumption that because the scope was sent to a city and the eBay scope is being sold from a nearby city that "it must be him" and the whole you don't know what is in the box argument...I won't even get into the Quebec thing.

This is the whole reason we have due process, so that 5 assumptions don't give a guy a life sentence.

Stick to watching CSI re-runs and leave the real work to the authorities.

Sounds like something the criminal would say.... hmmm im no lawyer but i DID watch matlock in a bar last night. The sound was off but i got the gist of it.

Another site I was a dealer on (non-firearms) had a vendors section just for that. We did have a 'bad buyer' list for charge backs and such.

Helped me out a bunch, as it was nice to check with others about anti-fraud techniques.

Seriously?

Phil, any developpement on the issue ?

Thanks for asking...no results yet. The local EPS members have been great and attempted to contact the person who listed one of our scopes (serial number confirmed) but have not had any response. The investigators were stunned that we had no protection from MC and have been putting extra effort into this investigation. Phil.

I sure hope they catch the sobs.
Funny, they thought that the vendor was protected so less effort involved
in catching the scamming artist?

Good luck Phil.

Actually I don't think these guys would do less if our losses were covered...they are just good investigators. I was not present when this was reported nor have I personally interacted with them. Even though I am a retired member from the EPS most of the front line members do not know who I am (or was) since I have been retired 20 years last month. Phil.
