On the 6th and 8th of March 2017 the following two Nightforce scopes were obtained with the fraudulent use of a credit card:

ATACR, C554, 5-25x56, MIL-R,ser #AA34116A
ATACR, C545, 5-25x56, MOAR 5, ser#BA16933A

We have reported this Fraud with the Edmonton Police Service and Laval Police Dept. where the scopes were sent.

We have been advised by Master Card that this was a fraudulent use of one of their cards but it has not been reported stolen. We were able to stop the sale of a third scope when these sales seemed too suspicious. We have been advised by M/C that we will be on the hook for the entire amount that with priority shipping amounts to $7362.50.
This was not a CGN purchase but I post here to prevent someone from buying these scopes obtained by crime. I will not post the name of the person who allegedly obtained these scopes as it may not be his correct name. You can email us or PM me for more specific info if required. Any assistance in this matter would be appreciated. Phil.

If the card wasn't present at the time of purchase verified by signature or chip then I believe the retailer is on the hook.

That sucks Phil. Hope it gets sorted for you... I got one of my scopes from you guys and you were a top notch retailer and don't deserve this at all.

This was mail order so obviously no card was presented. Phil.

I was mainly just responding to the post above mine asking why Mastercard holds the retailer liable. It sounds like the perp. Got the number but didn't steal the card or it would have been reported stolen...

Did the police have any indication of what they could do? I'm guessing it required a signature for pickup.

I don't trust anything in Quebec as far as I can throw it. There's only so many places to sell a $3k scope, I'll keep an eye out!

wow, this really sucks... hopefully, there is a positive ending.

When processing the card, did the clearing "box" give any indication of a problem? You got me worried now. If you want to discuss offline, send me a PM or email.

As a retailer, if the processing system says we are good to go, how are we to know there may be a problem some time later?????

I don't think this is fair ....

Unfortunately, very common. They seem to send them to an unoccupied building.

The card companies generally lump everything on the merchant as a marketing tool to shield the card holders from fraud.

I would imagine having a secure online payment site would help
The type that check address and 3 digit number on back of the card to ensure the card is physically in the customers presence.

I'm not sure if that would then absolve the retailer financially from the fraud but would have costs to the retailer in the form of setup.

Then only mailing it to the matching address of the cardholder might help protect retailers who do a significant amount of mail order business.
