If find it odd that so many folks have issues getting ARMS 18 style mounts to align correctly.

Here's my tips
Get rid of the horse shoe washer on the inside of the retaing bolt. This lil bugger is what offsets the front of the mount... I ditch it everytime.
The rear screw that attaches to the stripper clip guide key. This has an adjustable pad that is key to alignment.
Remove the screw and use a slot screw driver to adjust. First step is to back it out so it doesn't make contact upon "test fit" install. Same goes for the front pad.
**on my promag version this rear adjustable pad was installed backwards from the package. The slotted face should face up, away from the receiver.

Snug fit the side bolt and set a 3/4 or 1" dowel on the mount. Observe position.
The slowly bring rear pad to just touch the clip guide key.
-instal rear screw to just snug, the fully tighten side bolt.
- check alignment and level.
These can now be adjusted by removing rear screw and lessening or increasing the tension of the rear pad. Reinstall screw and fully tighten.
Finally adjust front pad until it just touches receiver.

Seems to work every time for me, and I install an awful lot of the arms style mounts.

As for your friends advice to buy one of these fun rifles.... Hungry said it all

Tagged for my second go. I had to dial in 5 inches of windage @25 meters but I'd rather be centered with room to move.

Well I shot it last weekend

I bought a Polytech M14 and shot it for the first time at 300 yards. I gotta say I was surprized at how well it shot. (with iron sights) At first I was way off but walked it in eventually. The sights must have been off by 2 gear teeth But I fixed that up.

The biggest problem I had with the rifle was the toxic Chinese ammo. The bullets and the case were all the same color if you are familiar with this stuff.

I was shooting into the wind and learned my lesson on that point. The smoke blowing out the muzzle actually blew back toward me in the breeze and really burned my eyes. They were watering so bad that I could hardly shoot. I was coughing and sneezing with red eyes for 2 days.

If you are going to shoot that junk ammo, check the wind first.... Or better yet, just buy better ammo.

Norincos are hit and miss quality-wise. You might get a decent one or (likely) not.

The iron sights on mine seemed way off the mark and kind of crumby quality but the rest of the rifle is great. I added an ARMS mount, 3-9x Nikon, cheek rest, new op rod spring, bayonet (it looks badass with the bayonet fixed) and shimmed the gas cylinder. It shoots awesome now, you should definitely buy one! Or two. I want a shorty now.

Our CASM scope mount is designed to be "adjusted" for elevation for seriously long distance shooting. It can move within a range beyond 30MOA if you need it too. It is the only scope mount design that lets you do that by adjusting 2 vertical set screws fore and aft on the mount. Here is a photo of the Gen2 model with BUS (these should be in stock next week as they are still in anodizing):

Trust me on this. Go for the CASM. It works AMAZING. I have one and I love it! No problems. And get a M305. No gun cupboard is complete without one

Your friend is right, Chinese M-14's ARE one of the very best deals out there these days! Really happy I got mine, and yes will be buying at least one more, probably a shorty!

what i like about the norcs...

is that i can cut on them all i like and not feel bad.. a good 2nd hand one in NZ costs $300 and i feel no emotional attachment to it ( or the dollars spent... compared to a springfield )

im currently hunting out a good deal on a new Shorty to make it even shorter

I'm have trouble understanding why one would spend $300 on that mount when you could hey a ARMS 18 for $100 less or a Promag for $200 and get the same results.

I got the $140 aluminum one and had some issues;

Then the close up;

Although this $300 mount made out of steel sounds like a better mount but there is no way to adjust for windage corection with this mount, only elevation.

Still my 3 fav's got to be;

Now I do like the split ARMS 18 mount although they no longer make it. Plus further more I don't know how many times I have to say this but...

To soft of a material to be placed over a section that get's slammed around violently by the steel on steel banging. over prolong usage the fulcrum point (usually the middle of one's optic) craps out on ya. That's what I noticed on mine. As I have had to recticale's snap and the other with the etch lens pop right out of place. Although I ain't no sunday shooter so maybe banging a few hundread rounds in rapid shooting is not what this mount was ment for. Although I must say with the sudden change to steel I might have found a winner. But time will only tell.
