it looks like one of those "display"pistols that you used to get at the likes of 'SAN FRANSISCO" OR OTHER NOVELTY SHOPS- i sure wouldn't load it up with black powder and shoot it - probably pot-metal and made in mexico, spain or morocco- just like the fake chrome swords -look good if you don't know what to look for- used to retail for about 45-60 bucks-

It's likely a replica, but see if a magnet will stick to it. Then put it back in...I mean, on the fridge. I'd bet that hole goes all the way through.

Funny, I don't think it is a replica.
Maybe the stock is a replacement but the rest of the metal looks like something authentic.
Maybe you should research some websites specializing in very ancient firearms.

It appears that the trigger guard is cast as part of the other half to the frame.

But just to make sure, load it with 400 grains of FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF powder and then screw in a bigger-than-bore copper jacketed slug...tamp down hard...tape to tree...tie 300 yard string to trigger...get behind big boulder...plug ears

I don't think they stamped a date on the side of that type of firearm back in 1775, look for any kind of proof marks or at least letter stampings. Whatever you do, don't try to shoot it even if you could get the flint for it.

Is it made of real steel/iron or is it made of pewter? Frankly, it looks a little too new and unrefined for a real 1770's era pistol.

Take it to a gunsmith to see if it's a gun and not a display item before you even THINK of shooting it.
