So my girlfriends brother went to the silverdale range the other day and saw a guy with a belt fed AR, apparently it's the only one in existence in Canada as of yet, is irunguns making a move on this ? Will it be "commonly available" perhaps next year ?

That would be a rare beast. It's either a Valkyerie or a Shrike, and both are about $4000 for a conversion kit (maybe more?). Why do you have "commonly available" in quotations? Usually that means you're referencing something specific, such as the handgun magazine capacity laws that cite a that the handgun must be "commonly available" in order for 10 rounds mags to be permitted.

What would be the max cap for a belt fed anyways? I was told guys with belt fed MGs can load them full and not just 5 rd links. Is this true? Is there a difference for a belt fed AR and an MG42?

The Shrike has been in volume production for several years now, but not many have made their way this side of the border. Cost is about five grand and you are limited to 5 rounds capacity, so it's not hard to figure out why.

Does anyone know if the BRP XMG (the 8mm MG 34 upper) was ever brought into Canada? It appears to be an FFL item in the US so I'm not sure how it would be classified here... I'm tempted to try and import one to see if I can adapt it to an AR 180 lower or XCR... but worried about having RCMP examination take forever...

The upper is unregulated on an AR. It wouldn't need a lab inspection.
Good luck modifying an ar upper to fit an xcr or Ar180. Not easy.

A belt fed upper utilizing a pre 1945 belt design and the applicable ammo for it would be unlimited, and not need classification. Would just be an upper.
8mm mg belts. Perhaps 7.62x39 belts.
22lr belts would be unlimited I think.

The belt has to be for a gun of a pre 45 design. If it happens to work in some other gun it is still fine. The gun doesn't have to be pre 45.
