Friend saw a belt fed AR

Sorry, which links does the AR15 beltfed use? I was under the impression they were M27 links which are not pre-46

edit- sorry, you're referring to the mg34 upper. I thought you meant the shrike.

So I'm confused again! IMO that Ares upper is not legit here unless it is chambered in .308 using pre-1946 links...or am I missing something?
Sorry if I'm complicating things, but it is quite an interesting piece.
 
The .223/5.56 shrike is limited to 5 round belts since it uses M27 links. M27 links were designed for a gun that was post 1946.
The shrike upper is itself legal (there is at least one in Canada), you just can't load a belt with more than 5 rounds at a time with it.

....and that's what I thought. In the pic it look like he is running more than 5 round links, I might be wrong. Which makes this toy NOT much fun for me!! :D
