This info was passed on to me last year for per's interested on going South to train:


Some courses are open, some are restricted-enrollment. Some courses require an export permit (from the U.S. Department of State), some don't.

If you need a permit, it'll cost extra (~US$250. - $300.) and it might take time (~months), so you'll want to talk to the school and plan ahead.

Oh I forgot.
There were 2 guys in our course that drove in from Vegas every day and they said NEVER again. It was an hour plus drive so when you had a 6:30 start on day 1 they had to be on the road at 5:00.
If you don't like spiders don't go in October it's tarantula season. I want to go in October :p
 
Been there a number of times and found the training excellent. The 4 day defensive hand gun gives a solid foundation of skills to build on. Instructors are for the most part excellent. I find that every class has shooters that range from newbies to experts. You have to keep in mind that they are teaching you their way of doing things. If you are going looking for individual coaching to perfect your current technique the place is probably not for you. If you want to get a solid foundation of handgun skills I really recommend it. Another thing, it is not a course where you learn to be a competitive target shooter. It is designed to teach someone to use a pistol in a real live defensive situation (Albeit at an introductory level). If you graduate or get a distinguished graduate designation it opens up some really cool tactical courses that you can take. I recommend the place and I plan to continue to take courses there.

I stay at the Saddle West. Room comes with a breakfast buffet that is pretty good. Its not the Ritz but it is clean at a decent rate.

Many are covered under ITAR and wont allow foreigners to attend.
 
I have done about 6-8 courses there. I got the lifetime membership for a song and have never regretted it. They also teach hand to hand combat as well knife fighting. All the instructors are great and would not hesitate to anyone. Go for 4 day course on Monday , stay in Pahrump at the Best Western (You get a rate) after the course hit Vegas for the weekend and you are set. A great vacation.
