Frustrated with Gun Club Experience

...................and thats why the sport is dying, if people don't actively recruit new shooters it will go to the wind

Yup, and a significant number of people really don't care because all they want is to have the range to themselves for them and their buddies(with your membership dues to help finance it). The less members the better for them!

They'll gladly take your $$$$, but if you're not well known/popular, they'r rather not have you taking up range space!

Not to drag politics into the picture, but the fewer we are, the quicker our gun ownership rights will erode.

I've been a member of PoCo for a few years, and if you get your RUC, it's not too bad. It does feel like a busy golf driving range most of the time on Range#7.

The mother of all Stinkeyes....Wendy.....likes it when we do dumb, inconsiderate & ignorant things to each other that diminishes our fraternity of Canadian gun owners & shooters.

The smaller political lobby we represent the easier it makes her job of convincing the reigning politicians to throw us under the bus.

THE STINKEYES ARE UPON YOU

Ignore the old fudds! They are everywhere in this sport/hobby. Everywhere from at the club to the stores where we spend even more of our hard earned dollars. The fun of the sport outweighs the horrible attitude that too many of the old members have.

Every club I've ever joined has always had that one old dude that never shoots but always shows up every range day to dole out his grumpy information to all within ear shot...accurate or not.

Thicken your skin and turn the tables on them, you are there to have fun...don't let the stink eye get to ya.

Langley Rod and gun is hosting their anual family days in a few weeks...

I will add some details to the events page in a few days..

It would be my hope that this event may be able to warm up a few of the frosty impressions

Langley Rod and gun club primarly caters to trap and sheet shooters, though they do have indoor pistol and .22 nights weekly, and yes, that old guy at the desk is possibly not the best candidate...

Another vote for Abbotsford. Range improvements ongoing, indoor & outdoor pistol friendly range, rifle range (black, green, red rifle and no silly one round, one shot rule) trap, archery. Set up any target you like except glass and clean up after yourself. The down side to Abby is no access most weekdays until 3:30 PM and the rifle range extends only to 100 yards or so.

Sorry about your encounter with a grumpy old dude at Langley. There are a few around at any range except I have not found one at Abby so far.

Keep trying. There's always a few grumpy/jerk sorts around, but generally speaking the majority of the people I've run into at clubs are very helpfull and willing to chat. I have run into a few tools, but they're in the minority. Never good when they're your first experiance at a club.

If I run into new people with questions I always try to be as helpfull as possible and answer whatever questions I can, give them a tour of the club etc. Always good to have more good people in our sport, and those people are guests. I treat them as such.

I live on gabriola island, and after paying a very small fee and a friendly handshake, i was handed a key to the place where members are trusted until there is a reason not to be trusted. the range is always vacant, which makes for a very peacefull shooting experience... since mine is the only gun going off. And when there are more people than just myself, the folks are always more than friendly and the appointed range officers are always very safe yet also informal.

I live in Vancouver and belong to Abbotsford, Mission (their lame 1 shot per mag rule is somewhat offset by their excellent facilities and 300m rifle range) and finally Thompson Mountain Sportsmans association in Pitt Meadows. All are good and I use them all for different things.

You can have both good and bad experiences at a club, I've met some of the guys who run my local one who are great people, and then others who are rude, mean people. I was so mad the last time I left the range I said I wasn't going back there any more, but I thought about it and realized 2 lousy people shouldn't ruin all my good experiences there,

Hey it was good meeting you at TMSA tactical shoot in July. Hope all is well with you guys!

Thats what I feel like when Im out at Genessee here in Edmonton. I love being out there... The only rule that would even come close to bothering me is no shooting before 12pm on Sundays and Holidays, but thats more then bearable...

I'm amazed hear all these stupid rules you guys have to deal with in other places.... one loaded round at a time? seriously?...

Ya, the Mission rifle range is 'controlled' by BR & F-class crowd. Having more than one round in your mag is a safety issue in their minds.
