Fuel prices and hunting plans?

Moose I go for sure, bison not so much anymore… skidoos are not cheap on gas! My truck is pretty good old dodge 2500 Cummins 5.9L I usually get around 12L/100km sometime even down to 10.5!!

i've got the w250 with the 5.9 cummins. It does make the long trips with better fuel economy than my 4.0ltr cherokee but diesel is up at 2.12 right now in the bc interior. That's pretty silly considering it's a byproduct of gasoline.
I wonder how many Liberal politicians have high stakes in Oil stocks and are making out like bandits while this fake fuel shortage (in BC) being blamed on russia when most if not all of our fuel comes from BC and alberta and not russia.

Lets face it , the socialist pigs trying to take over our country don't want you to be able to afford to travel.... period.

I burned about 650 gallons of diesel through equipment today. Yes the price blows but a few more gallons to go hunting once in a while isn't going to make a difference.

Damn gas prices are crazy! I'm spending $60 a day going turkey hunting in the ram 5.7l hemi. I'm converting it to propane in the fall if gas stays around $2, only $1.00 liter for propane.

All of my life I saved A LOT of money by not smoking, drinking, taking drugs, gambling or cheating on my wife..............I'll have enough money for fuel this autumn for hunting, and then some.;)

I dont do any of this crap, when does the money kick in? Lol

I moved to Dawson Creek. I hunt close now.

And by the sounds of it there will be less shiny trucks with Vancouver plates cruising peace region backroads this year

When I look at what I spend in gas to fill the freezer for the year with game meat it most likely would pale in comparison to what I’d spend at the store for a years worth of meat, not to mention the difference in meat quality and knowing that I was the one to kill and process it. Always worth it, anything that gets me more time in the bush is a good thing.

I hunt out my back door sometimes literally. 500 kms of trails to wander. I might walk once or twice due to gas prices. And it is easier to sneak up on a bear walking.

I’m lucky to have options.
I’d say in the last 10 years 90% of my meat has
Come from within 100km of my home.

I walk a lot. I have a cheap commuter car. So I can drive for 10 min and hike my spots.
5$ tarp for the trunk if I get lucky

Got a old Honda quad that I can hunt with for a whole week for 20-30L of fuel

Or what I’ll be doing for spring bear next week.
Is from my 14ft aluminum boat. It’s easy on fuel and then I troll with my electric and glass for bears while I got a rod or two out
Can troll for over 8hrs on my battery bank.
3$ in the genny and I’m charged for the next day.
Might look into a solar panel too

I’m lucky to live in great country for big game hunting and fishing. World class walleye fishing on my doorstep but I prefer to fish 2-3 hours away. All rigged up to go shoot gophers into tiny bits just for ####s and giggles, but it’s a 4 hour drive. As a middle aged guy with kids it seems irresponsible.

With the gas money I spent to tag out on wild turkey this spring I could have bought almsot a dozen domestic birds. I spend money on guns, ammo, camo/clothing, optics/rangefinder, decoys and all sorts of other gear. Gas, despite being so high, is a drop in the bucket to get me out enjoying the woods and my favourite pastime. When I stop hunting, it's because my body has deteriorated to the point I can no longer safely hunt or I have major family responsibilities. Nothing else will stop me.. money, work etc.

Going to save enough money after May 18th (new reg. starts----how's voting PPC working now), I'll not worry about fuel costs.

I have excellent hunting and fishing, within walking distance. Well, at least it was, when I was a teen.
Same here but the whole area became a suburb decades ago. Thankfully my parents had itchy feet and moved to Alberta. As for fuel prices, I'm still too young to sit at home.

well I will be looking at less day trips and more setting up a field camp for a few days

I have a few places that are only 150Km trips and made great day trip hunts but if I camp overnight that will reduce fuel consumption significantly.

Only problem is my old bones don't like to sleep on the ground anymore, going to need a good cot and air mattress, heater, etc.....

Thats what a camper is for. - dan
