Fun project suggestion with a rem. 700 receiver ???

Im doin the same thing now too...... Im putting together a short barrel 300BLK....

300BLK is a fun rd to play with in a bolt gun...especially if limited to ~ 100yds
As cheap as it gets to reload...small primers and fawkall powder...pretty much free brass always around....and nice big 30cal holes to see/hear

Putting it in a MDT folder and mounting a reverse fake can to freak out the fudds

360 buck hammer me that be a good one.

Honestly if it’s for 100 ish yards 6mm BR is a sweetheart of a chambering.
Got a custom 6BR already and it's by far my favorite Caliber out to 600m and more.
300BLK is a good idea but, my receiver is a short action .480 bolt face. My options seems limited for a small cal. 357 would have been cool.

Even with the correct bolt face the factory 700 BLK guns have the extractor clocked in a different position than the 223/222/17 guns. The same problem presents itself when trying to make a fireball conversion

A crappy photo

Either a 250 or 300 savage please.
250 would be my choice.
And there's always the 25 Souper.

450 Bushmaster would work.

I have heard of people converting rifles with a .308 bolt face to a single shot bolt action .45 ACP.

The other one that intrigues me is 44 automag which is essentially a straight wall and shorter .308 casing. I have heard of people making a single shot bolt action rifle.

A lot of US states have straight wall cartridge hunting restrictions. I was doing research on a 44 x 1.6. Basically it's a wildcat .308 cartridge shortened to 1.6 inches with a 44 cal bullet (0.429). The casing is longer and seems to feed from a magazine.

If I didn't already have a short barreled 300 Blackout that I shoot cast bullets (200-245 grain) out of I would consider building one of these.

450BM is an amazing 308 bolt face straight wall caliber. Can use cheap 451/452 bullets, lots of factory offering in subsonic and supersonic. Very good short range hunting, feeds well from AICS magazines.

Good idea.
I'll think about that. I'm leaning toward 450BM, 44 mag rimless or 444 marlin rimless.

I’ll throw in a vote for 450BM. Never owned or shot one but read up on them many times. Seems like a cool round. A nice short barrelled bolt action with a little scope on it seems like the appropriate rifle for it other than the evil, unnecessary and weapon of mass fun that it was designed for.

Hi,
I have a remington 700 receiver (308 bolt face) unused at the moment and, I'm in search of a project to do with it.
I'm all set in precision target rifle so, I'm thinking of something cheap to reload and fun to shoot 100y.
I would maybe try to turn and chamber the barrel myself on my small lathe.
Have any idea?
357 maybe? Don't know if it would fit in 308 bolt face.
Thanks
A member from Manitoba late last winter bought a 338 No1 for parts and installed a .357 Magnum barrel on it.
Allegedly it shoots the eyes out of flies at 100 yrds.
Not sure what the rim is or if it is feasible as a repeater, but maybe a single shot ?
Failing that, how about a .223 ?
Tight Groups,
Rob

Most of the previous suggestions, "most" won't work with your 308 bolt face. I have been researching a feasible round off that same bolt face the last few weeks that will work in the lever action BLR.

The 35 whelen will if you have a long action.

The 450 bushmaster is an awesome round. I used one for my primary hunting rifle last year.

The 45 raptor will work, but you will have to make your own brass, as there is no longer any new 45 raptor brass in Canada. How do I know?? I just ordered the last of the brass that Rusty had and he is only special ordering it now, and starline doesn't know when they will be making anymore. I couldn't even find any in the US for that matter. I'm in the process of building a lever 45 raptor.

the 44 auto, or the 45 win mag also work in the 308 bolt face if you want something with a shorter brass case. Will just have to work the feeding from magazine a little, or single load them.

375 Scovill or 338-06 is what I'd do. Not exactly a plinking rifle though. Maybe a 6BR with a single-shot adapter/follower for 100yd target?
