Fun semi-auto .22 recommendations

So I have a cz452 which I use for most of my plinking, usually at a friends house in the back yard. I love it, shoots great. However, the 452 is more for the serious business and I'd like something more fun to kick around. We play some shooting games that require speed, something I'm woefully at a disadvantage at with the 452 (I'm the only bolt action). So I'm looking for a a semi-auto that shoots fast and relatively accurately. I know the most common answer to this is the 10/22 and I'm keeping that option open. But as a relatively novice shooter I have a couple of questions on the 10/22 and how they stack up against the other semi-auto 22s on my list.

Here are my priorities, in order of importance:
- Fun to shoot
- Accurate
- Reliable
- Affordable (Don't want to break the bank but I'm flexible on price)

First, questions on the 10/22. I know it's the most versatile of semi .22s available but I'm not looking for a money pit. I don't mind spending a bit more to get it setup how I want and to do the basic mods (trigger etc...) but I'm not looking for an unending money pit. Once I get it the way I want I'll stick with it like that. Looking around the 10/22 in deluxe walnut stock looks great and if I didn't have the 452 I'd probably be all over it in a heartbeat. However, with the walnut 452 already in hand I was kind of thinking this might be the time to try tacticool :p Right now I'm pretty much on the fence on the idea as it would basically be spending money for a specific cosmetic style. At least that's how I see it. So here are the options I'm weighing, listed in highest to lowest cost (from where I can find them):

- CZ 512
- Anschütz MSR RX22
- A 10/22 in the some black stock still-to-be-determined (Buy 10/22 used on EE and drop into a custom stock)
- The 10/22 deluxe walnut stock

So questions:

1) Will the custom stocks affect accuracy much? Just curious about the cheaper plastic ones and how'd they'd perform vs the stock walnut.
2) How does the 10/22 stack up vs the 512 and the RX22? I'm thinking the price on the 512 and the RX22 might be overkill for what I'm looking for.

The gun would be used from all positions and would primarily be for kicks.
 
Just buy any 10/22.... Fast, Fun, Reliable, Affordable. You wont be disappointed and for a fun gun no mods are needed but you have the option.
 
Why are people saying the stock 10/22 is reliable?
Why would they have soooo many upgrade parts for it then?
Look on both this forum and rimfirecentral and see all the issues with them.
Once they get sorted out, at a cost they are great!
 
Marlin 795 and promag 25 rounders. Enough money left over for some ammo and rimfire Tannerite....... now that is the definition of fun! Cheap, accurate, reliable....I'd say it fits the bill.

I don't mind making some mods, that's not an issue. I kind of expect it with the 10/22. Ultimately I'm not looking for a tack driver, just reasonably accurate. The fun will be pretty much always be under 50 yards.

Ha! We shoot .22s at my buddy's place because we need to keep the noise down, I'm pretty sure tannerite is out!
 
My 10/22 has zero 'upgrades' and it's just the way I like it.
Not against upgrading. I do it all the time. It just didn't need it (50th Anniversary 'Customer design' model).
 
Most stock 10/22's are very reliable, clean it as soon as you get it including a complete and I mean complete disassembly and lubing and run full power ammo through it and you will be fine. AE 40gr has always been my go to ammo for stock guns.

Another vote for the Marlin 795. Great rifle for the price. Get some 25 round mags and go to town.

Despite the many folks who seem to think all factory 10/22's are reliable, simply because the one they bought is reliable, that is not the case. They are fun.....if they cycle without jamming. You can clean it, lubricate it, change ammo brands etc. but at the end of the day buying a 10/22 is a "roll of the dice". You might be looking at extra parts $$ just to make it run.

hard to comment on all of them just commenting on the ones I own sounds like most people that rolled those dice made out ok
 
Most people will recommend what they already have. I have had Ruger 10/22's and the CZ512 in 22lr and in I currently still have the CZ512 in 22wmr. I found the CZ512 22lr more accurate than the Ruger 10/22, however I am sure you can get a very accurate Ruger 10/22 depending what you want to pay. There is a very large number of accessories available for the Ruger 10/22, while not very many for the CZ512, however it does use the same magazines as the CZ455 and CZ452. The following is an older review if the CZ512, however it is wrong in the fact that it says that there is no bolt hold open, which is not true, also I believe the newer ones have a revised trigger. When I purchased my CZ512 in 22lr, it was considerable more expensive than the Ruger 10/22's, however that does not seem to be as true at the present time.

May I add the Marlin 60 as it fits your priorities as well, or even better than the others.
 
Savage 64 is a great semi as well!! Cheap to purchase, few small mods make it a great shooter! ( polish internals, mags, feed ramp, and install trigger spring kit. )

I as well love my 10/22.... More money once u start modifying though...
