Fun semi-auto .22 recommendations

Marlin 795 gets my box.

Out of the box, way more accurate than a 10/22, and at a fraction of the price. Very reliable as well.

If you want to spend the rest of your life tinkering with it and modding and and spending $1K + over time to try and make something as accurate as your $200 Marlin was out of the box, get a 10/22.

p.s. Yes, I do have both. The 10/22 was the single most disappointing gun purchase (out of 40+ gun purchases) I've made in the past 3 years.
 
10/22 no upgrades reliable, fun and accurate.
Upgrades just make it even better or give it the look you want.

Thanks guys, I've narrowed it down to two options, the 10/22 (not sure of model yet) or the marlin 60 tube feed. I'm going to try and find a local place to see if I can handle them before trying to narrow it down any more. The price on the marlin is attractive, easy to toss into a different stock if I don't like the one it comes with. I also wouldn't mind trying the tube feed. But at the same time I wouldn't mind the larger magazine option for the 10/22, will have to do some serious weighing of the pros and cons.
 
Personally, I think everyone needs at least 1 10/22. So if you don't have one yet, go for it. They are wonderful, especially for the price. The Plinkster 715T is fun, but not great quality.
The Anschults RX-22, is a fantastic gun. Have only owned mine for a couple of months have about 1000 rounds through it, and it's great. But not cheap.
But for a first semi-auto .22 Ruger 10/22, beats all hands down, IMO. And they are a great platform to do your first bit of amature gun smithing and repair. Lots of kits, upgrades and videos on how to do it. You won't be sorry with a 10/22.
 
Another vote for the Marlin 795. I also own a Deluxe 1022 and have owned 6 other 1022s over the years including 2 Heavy barrels both in Blue and Stainless. Didn't know about the Marlin 60/795/Papoose until recently. For 1/2 the price of a 1022, IMHO the Marlin 795 is a better .22 and definitely more accurate out of the box. Many 1022s also have feeding problems, especially the newer ones. You can pick up a new 795 for $175. Less is some locations. My Stainless one cost more of course.

agree, 10 22 may over rated, I have had better luck with a rem597.
 
Another vote for marlin 795's I've gotten a few people started shooting with mine, they have also purchased them with generally good results. Most complaints were resolved with a spring kit and new trigger or trigger and guard kit, all while coming in far under the cost of a plain Jane 10/22.
 
I had a Browning 22 SA that was a blast to plink with ... the one with the tube feed in the buttstock ... loaded through a port in the left side of the stock.
Neat little takedown rifle. Used price around the same as a 10-22 deluxe. Never had a malfunction with it.

Well, then they misled you with incorrect info. There have been less then approximately 6 million 10/22's manufactured by Ruger. There have been over 11 million model 60's made by Marlin. The Model 60 was also released 4 years earlier
 
I've got a stock Ruger 10/22 that I've had for 20 years. Shot thousands of rounds with no gun related issues. Recently I bought a 10/22 takedown and have had great results with it as well. I don't think you can go wrong with buying one.
