FX9 Mag Last Roound Bolt Lock back.

firsrt nothing on the hold back issue.

I finally thru in the towel after having more issues with bulged cases. After two out of battery experiences I got hold of Wolvwrine. Heather there is excellent by the way. The gunsmith want to see the gun. Since I was getting bulged cases using factory ammo AND got them with both the 18.5" AND the 10" barrel. Om top of that the extractor broke on the 10" upper - the spring broke I think. so the gun and the 2nd upper are on their way to Wolverine for warranty work. I am sure their 'smith should be able to determine what is wrong. The gun went back on my dime and I would hope it comes back on theirs.

All in all i have found the gun to be scary accurate and reliable. The extractor spring is no big deal. The bulged cases and the failure to lock back using most of my Glock and after market mags is not particularly impressive. Tjhe gun has all the makings of being an excellent little competitor but right now mine is not. It will get fixed I am sure. I just don't like Beta testing $1,400 firearms.

The basic Ruger PCC or S&W FPC are both better options IMHO. So is the now outlawed CX4 Storm . That said if my Carbine issues can be fixed it is a nice little carbine and ###y as hell.

Did you get the heavier buffer?

If so is the gun still bulging cases with the heavier buffer?

Yes, it helped but i still had issues with bulged cases with factory ammo. Not as severe but when the extractor spring broke on my 10" and with the factory set up still bulging cases I sent in a warranty claim. Wllverines 'Smith wants to look at the carbine so both uppers and the lower are on their way to Woverine. What finally got me motivated was when I tested five different factory offerings in each upper and three of the five oĺustrated bulged cases to the same extent using both uppers and two out if battery ignitionsvibfigured it was time to let the warranty department do their magic. None of my other PCC guns eject bulged cases or out of battery issues and I don't think this gun should either. I am sure Wolverines 'Smith will sort it out. I'll know by month end what is going on with the gun. I am confident the problem will be resolved. I also asked them to address the lock back problem as well. I do gave two mags that do work so if nothing can be done I can live with the gun as I know how to modify the mag followers to get the lick back feature to work. I still think the heavier buffer is required but with both uppers acting the same way there has to be something wrong with the lower. The likelihood of both uppers giving the sane problem is highly unlikely. We should know the answer in a few weeks. I should say Wolverine have been excellent to work with. I am certain this will all get resolved.

The last round bolt hold open is not magazine related, although some may still work better than others. before the fix

Since mine was fixed by Wolverine, ALL my magazines have locked back on last round 100% of the time and the bolt release has not gone off once by itself (whereas before it went off without rhyme or reason). This is 700 rounds after getting it back. Not a single problem with the last round bolt hold open or bolt release.

Great job by Wolverine to resolve the issue. Gun is running SUPERB right now.

Thegazelle do you get any signs of brass bulging? I may have asked you that before.
You are right about the lock back issue. I assume Woverine bent the arm that activates when the follower rises and is supposed to lift the bolt stop which intern stops the bolt. In your case prior to tĥe fix the arm was lifted just enough to catch the bolt but not high enough to hold it. In short the bolt was sliding off the bolt catch causing the bolt to go forward. I tried to add "metal" aka epoxy to the tip of the arm that contacts the follower. This worked holding the bolt back until I tried to load a,bullet. The extension prevented the cartridge from loading as the bullet hit the extension preventing the cartridge from loading. I do believe if Freedom Ordnance added metal to the bottom of the arm it might resolve the issue but I don't have the equipment or skill to do that. Bending the arm accomplishes the same thing and I bet that is what will be the fix for my gun as well. I should point out the FX9 my neighbor has works fine and his gun does not bulge cases either.

I want my gun to work properly. I gave the better part of $2k invested in the gun with the extra upper. Aside from the odd out of battery firing, bulged cases, and failure to hold back the bolt the gun is accurate and reliable and is ###y as hell. The Ravon takes the latter to a whole new level with a red forearm and being Canadian made.

I have never had the bulged case issue, so can't really comment on that. As to the last round bolt hold open, I don't know exactly what was done except for a "mating" issue (the gunsmith's words), but I did notice when I got it back that the release button was reinstalled very very slightly canted to the left. We are talking milimeters here and I may have posted a photo when I got it back. Where the button was hitting the receiver before I can see the silver of a slight bit of it exposed so I know the button/switch is not straight 90 degrees. Regardless, the problem was fixed and every single magazine now locks back securely and the button even when manually engaged, will not release unless I press it. So pretty happy camper with this one.

Yes I remember your post and pictures. The change in how the bolt catch lay on the receiver is what led me to believe the fix they used weas to bend the pasrt slightly. It does take much of a bend to get the arm to operate properly. For all the press the gun gets due to this issue it amazes me that Freedom doesn't just fix the problem. In any event also glad to confirm you don't get case bulging. I have no idea why mine does other than it must be a problem in the lower as both uppers send out bulged cases with identical ammunition. I am certain the 'smith at Wolverine will find the solution.

Take Care and enjoy the rest of our to short summer season.
