Fx9 or fpc

I love my FPC. Most reliable gun I have. Shoots very accurate too. Perfect gun to pack in the truck and bring with you to crown land. I do some tactical shooting with it and have found it getting easier to be faster. Would highly recommend it

Agreed - my FPC has been 100% reliable.

Even better than my part upgraded Ruger PCC.

Good NEWS! My FX9 and the 10" upper are on their way home. I spoke to Heather at Wolverine today - what an absolute gem she is. Talk about customer orientated and willingness to help... I digress.

She read me the gunsmith report on the 18.5" and 10" upper. BOTH barrels have been replaced due to head spacing issues. The 'smith has tested the carbine using both uppers and neither have case bulging issues now. Excessive head spacing is what caused the case bulging and the two or three cases that let go just in front of the webbing. Who would have thought that two uppers made several months apart would have the same issues? Freedom Ordnance quality control may not be what it should be. I am told the bolt will now stay open after the last round and the broken extractor on the 10" upper has been replaced.

The gun should ne in my hands next Monday and I will report back here to confirm all is well. Wolverine has been very candid with me, and helpful. A special shout out to Heather for her patience and assistance.

ps I now have a Raven to compare the FX9 to. I'll do a comparison in the coming weeks.
I am also interested in hearing the follow up with this. Great information, thank you very much.

I love my FPC. I load up our 4x4 to head out on the trails for weeks at a time (when work allows for such). It is light and compact and fits easily wherever I need it to stow. It is much lighter than my 1895, SKS so I actually bring it with me on crown land back country hikes and it isn't so expensive (1895) that I worry about getting it damaged.

I am not trying to be tactical with it so I don't practice speed reloads or anything of that nature. My thumb can get to the mag release, but for the FPC intended purpose it is not important. I don't really use the safety. It can be disengaged from ready but not engaged. Not a big deal for my use case.

The polymer is glass reinforced and sturdy. No issues with holding zero. My only gripe is the brass deflector is also polymer and gets marred from +P ammo. Just cosmetic damage, but a thin steel insert here would have been nice.

I don't mind the stock but I don't need the mag holders since I am trying to go lightweight. Might be a little wide for some folk. Some other things when new you need to really slam the mags in place but that works itself out. No issues with spring tension being too stiff for me either. Mounting a sling you need to be aware it folds tight to the left side of the MLOK so don't plan on putting a QD mount there.

I won't get into the debate here but on the extremely rare chance I need it for wildlife I am fully confident in 9mm +P coming out of a PCC barrel. .357 power, low recoil and most important for a high adrenaline scenario - follow-up shots. If evening it helps me get a good night sleep on the ground, alone or with my dog on the other side of impassable terrain. Say a river crossing at night.
This was a very helpful comment for me. Trying to decide on my first PCC and I just keep coming back to the FPC. I’m looking for light, compact, and something “everyone” can enjoy and shoot. I have enough big heavy guns, looking for something more maneuverable. Thank you again.

Things I don't enjoy with the FPC is the broad stock with fixed length of pull (fine for me, but was awkward for smaller shooters) and the rail is so far forward that it is red dots only. The FX-9 has excellent ergonomics but price is not comparable with FPC ($1,400 vs $950).

Which to buy? I think 2 PCCs is the minimum number of PCCs in a collection: one for outback / plinking, one for range / competition. The FPC is decent enough, but I struggle to see it filling either of these roles with peak efficiency - on paper it looks like a viable outbacker, but when compared to something half the size less so. It is a compromise by design. Whereas the FX-9 is an uncompromising range / competition choice.

What would be your alternative recommendations for good outback PCC’s instead of the FPC? Im currently looking for a hiking/backing/quading PCC and I’m not the biggest fan of the Sub 2k.

A pistol would be best imo, but we aren't allowed, so I'd choose the next closest to a pistol. Small, light, economic. When hiking, rather than shooting, everything else is probably a burden?

They don't sell / ship to Canada or Canadians. I asked.
I also asked if, alternatively, if they had a Canadian vendor......and Tim answered with a "no sir".

Ya so...... if you are in Canada, you are not privy to purchasing these items, unless you pay-for and use an importing business like Prophet River or I Run Guns, etc.

I am waiting for a left hand-use safety button to become available.
This is disappointing of Taccom3g. I was very impressed with their FPC accessories. Wish you could just buy directly from them.

I have the FX9 Elite. Use a Vortex Sparc Ar. Great red dot. I changed our the pistol grip and the muzzle break with a TNA reverse style can. Use 27/10 pmags and haven't have an issue. Over 250rounds with the same three mags. Clean after every use. Lube well.

Have you looked at a Rossi 1892 in .357Mag. 38spl to plink with and a box of 357 for serious encounters. 132 year old design still doing what it was designed to do.

Take Care

Hmmm. No I actually didn’t consider that. Originally I was looking at options in an.45-70, then went down the rabbit hole of other calibres and applications. I love the FPC for its own purposes, but for something with more punch I’ll look into the Rossi. Great suggestion thank you!

Talk me out of a mares leg in 44 rem mag!
If you buy a standard buttstock for the mares leg I think you would have a perfect bush gun but beware the gun will rattle your teeth. With the pistol grip I found it difficult to shoot with any accuracy. A friend had one and he learned to shoot it reasonably well using 38spl cases in his 357 version. My 44 mag wears a regular buttstock with an installed recoil pad. The darn thing was hurtful. The steel curved butt end was not helpful in dealing with the recoil of a full 44mag load. The rifle is light. Just my experience, guys who are more manly than I might enjoy the punch. I didn't. The gun is light and handy. I prefer the 357mag version but I enjoy both. Hope this helps.

Take Care
Bob
Ps I mounted a red dot on mine. You can buy s Pic rail that replaces the iron sights. Makes for a much easier and faster gun to shoot. Google us your friend. I forget the company that makes the part.
