I'd like to actually see one before passing judgment. There are a couple of things I do like and a couple of things I don't like right out of the gate. On the negative side, the bead is right down on the barrel with no pedestal under it to match the height of the receiver, so the gun will shoot high. This seems to be a common failing among economy shotguns. The wood finish looks like gloss varnish, yuck! The lack of barrel band or attachment point from the barrel to the magazine makes it look like something is missing. If the trigger is around 4 pounds and crisp, thats workable, but 6 pounds is not.
On the plus side, this is an inexpensive gun that should be enthusiastically accepted by south paws who until now have had to use right handed budget minded guns like Mossy's, Winny's, Remmy's, Grizzlies, and Norcy's. The threaded magazine cap I would consider an improvement over the original.
The gun could be made quite serviceable with the addition of a ghost ring rear sight and post front sight or even by simply having a pedestal installed under a high vis bead. I would opt for a sling and swivels as well. For thoise who appreciate the mounting of a side saddle, there appears to be no easy way to do this short of drill and tapping the receiver.
My south paw brother who lives in central BC isn't a gun guy, but recently he has been talking about getting a bear gun for trips into the back country. His son who is right handed now has a .22 and a .30/06 so they are used to the idea of having guns in the house, and this Ithica just might provide one possible answer that could be used with equal ease by left handed or right handed family members.
