G34 vs SP-01 Shadow

Owner of a gen3 g17, gen4 g34 that’s been done up by blackbox customs and wears a trijicon rmr, and gen5 g17 MOS. If you want a glock get the gen5 g17. You can shoot production with it and the trigger is pretty good out of the box.
Shot a shadow and prefer my glocks, likely just because I’m used to them.

I do not know the technicalities of IDPA of what is allowed or not, did a quick search but drew blanks. Anyways, if you are set on one gun that has optics capability, perhaps look at the Canik line (if you don't get a Shadow). Great reviews all over the web, nice triggers, and many come with mags, holster, and a variety of accessories. The TP9 SFX even has a model that comes with a Vortex Viper - one and done; learn and upgrade down the road. I would stop kidding yourself that you will not be buying more pistols later anyways - one always leads to two, which leads to.....

Haha, yeah, I know I'm lying to myself. I know that I'll end up buying another handgun down the road anyways. BUT I for sure know that it'll be awhile before I do due to my circumstances (money, time, moving around, etc.). The Canik looks interesting! Thanks for the suggestion, I'll look into it. Although I'm worried about lack of aftermarket support compared to the CZ and glocks

How do you like G34 compared to the G17? Do you prefer one over the other?

I prefer the 34. It's heavier so it's more steady in the hand and seems slightly more accurate. But the 17 is quicker. It's all personal preference and really you'll find out eventually that experience and training mean more than the gun in the hand, especially for beginners. I enjoyed shooting the shadow that I tried, but alas, SA/DA just seems like older tech to me when compared to modern striker fired handguns, so I went that route instead.

Not sure if the Canik TP9SFx is IPSC/IDPA legal, but my brother has one and it is a very nice pistol. It is pretty much a Walther clone, and is 98% of my Q5 Match for 70% of the money. He has run it hard for 3 years without a hiccup.
