I know you said it was converted to 7.62x39 before you bought it,but what's involved with changing over to 7.62x39 from .308?ive got a m78 in .308 being imported now and I'd love to use AK mags with it.

The 308 mag well is larger. It would need a filler piece to help the 7.62x39 mags fit.
If I remember right, the 223 gun would be easier to modify. Same mag well, accepts the 7.62x39 bolt and carrier, and a barrel swap. With a 223 it would be just a barrel swap really.
But not 100% sure. It was in another thread somewhere.
I assumed the bolt would need replacing, but are the 308 and x39 carriers compatible?id hope the mag well are wouldn't have to be welded, possibly one of the aftermarket AK Magwells with a plate that could be bolted .
Bolt carriers are compatible - i.e. a 223 or 7.62x39 bolt will fit into a 308 bolt carrier. What you may find is that the cutout on the bolt won't match the receiver - I had to have the 7.62x39 bolt further machined for my conversion. The 223 to 7.62x39 conversion is much easier (no messing with the magwell) and reversible. Fenceline may be talking about my conversion project 223. hunter to 7.62x39. I have that functionally complete, but still messing with the buttstock and not quite ready to show :/
This was originally meant to be a Galil clone, but it's kind of turning into a bastard love child of a Galil and an AK. Swapped the Galil grip for a Russian Bakelite one, and stained the wood a color wery close to my Russian dewat AK. I still want to get the spacer made to use the Galil stock, and the barrel shortened, but I'm really liking the current version a lot more than I thought I would.
...my apologies for the dark photos, but in artificial light, the wood appeared in the photos to be much more red than it really is. These pics capture what it actually looks like.
