GAP Rifles

Anyone know of a good smith in the Calgary area that build precision rifles im looking to build a tactical one in the future, never actualy used a smith before. Thanks.

Regarding Ian's stocks, I said it before, and I'll say it again.

Roberson Composite's stock are at least as good as McMillan.

Ian will chime in again and say, "No, they are better!"

I'm certainly not going to argue the point.

If you go to Connault Ranges in the summer, you will see more of Ian's stocks than anyone else. These stocks are on rilfe with people from Ottawa (of course) Germany, New Zealand, Australia etc.

Pays ya money and takes ya choice!

So does Chandler make the Chandler rifle?

The Readers Digest version........;)

The Chandler Brothers, Norm & Rocky own and run Iron Brigade Armory which builds the Chandler rifles.........Norm Chandler is an Ex-Marine Armorer and was very heavily involved in the USMC Sniper Program. He also was instrumental in the building of the USMC Stone Bay Sniper range.

They were good friends of Gunny Carlos Hathcock II as well.

SKBY.

Further to this, he was also a Colonel who was instrumental in the development of the M40A1 rifle.

Currently he builds one rock solid rifle and all of his armorers are ex Marine 2112 armorers.

GAP employ's the former Marine 2112 armorer who was the lead project builder behind the M40A3 rifle.

Both build some nice rifles, but I still stick to my humble opinion that we have builders up here that are every bit as good.

I have used both and would take a McMillan hands down over a Robertson. Robertson seems to be geared more to competition shooters than real world shooters who do it for a living. Not knocking competition shooters who I think have contributed greatly to the real world of shooting vs shooting holes in paper. Canadian or not, as far as I am concerned go with the best. In my opinion, McMillan and H-S Precision are the premier stockmakers in rifles where lives' not scores are on the line. I have yet to see an operational gun with a Robertson stock on it. Just my opinion but I am sure Ian will disagree of course.

While you are correct that both McMillan and HS are the premier stock makers, there is a new boy on the scene named Manners. Fantastic quality, every bit as good as McMillan or HS.

Now as for Ian's stocks. First off, I have to say that Ian is one of the most down to earth people in this business, hands down. When I was looking at replacing my stock, he sent me a sample to look at no questions asked, he did not know me from Adam. On the stock itself, in my opinion, it was of extremely high quality. I have had a few McMillans and several HS stocks, Ian's are every bit as good, and it has nothing to do with being Canadian, he makes a top quality product with lots of options for a good price and excellent service.

I think one of the best qualified people on CGN to weight in on this would be LongRangeCanuck as he has a rifle built into a McMillan and his wife has one in a Robertson.

If you want a top quality stock and do not want the 6-8 month wait time, do not ever rule out Roberstson with out at least talking to him first.

looked at some of Ian's stocks and found that the majority of them are tailored to the benchrest crew. I don't like the website with them all standing on their butts , hard to see with the head tilted. Stack'm man.:D

Tell him the application you want and he will get it done for you. There are a few that are more tactical then BR and he can do several different levels of texture and colours.

I have to admit that Ian stocks are very appealing I talked to Ian on Monday and he sent me pictures of his latest stock I am very nuch impressed with the design that it will be one I will purchase . I have several rifles sporting McMillan stocks they are very nice stocks and are very well designed. Robertsons stocks share something in common with the McMillan stocks , Customer input into the features the end product has for meeting the needs of the customer
