I just bought a spare set of new Garand rear sights off fleabay , the seller advertised that he had 2 types of pinions for it.

Quote : - The Elevating Drum is Marked: VB, The Highest number being 12 for 30.06 cal.
(Let Me Know If You Need 308 PINION The Highest number being 8 )

- The Windage Knob is marked: BR

I have a set on one of my rifles already and I believe the sights are graduated up to 12 ,
Last year at milcun Hungry called it to a T as to what my comeups would be on my Shorty for the different ranges out to 500 meters .
My sights work like this

100 yds - 1 click from bottom
200 yards add 2 clicks - total 3 clicks from bottom
300 yards add 3 clicks - total 6 clicks
400 yards add 4 clicks - total 10 clicks
500 yards add 5 clicks - total 15 clicks from bottom

I have never heard of the 308 pinions and was thinking of getting the ones graduated to 12 (30.06) again .Has anyone used the 308 pinion and what if any would be the advantage if any of going with that one.

Thanks

I can't think of an easier set of comeups than the ones you have going already. Be interesting to see what the difference is with the .308 pinion.

See you Saturday! :D

By.308 pinion I assume they are referring to a BM59 elevation drum. Mine are graduated up to 8
I've just finished up this build and am debating on using the H&R usgi M14 rear sights I have or these flashy new white letter BM59's I snagged in the ee a couple months back.
Range day before friday so I'll let you know my come ups to 300 with both , and how many clicks it takes from bottom to 100m / 100 yard zero

Thanks Doc
I didnt know there were 2 versions of rear sight graduations
This is the guys ad , it shows a few pics as well.
For that price I jumped on it quick...these will only be my spare set...unless I
unless I want to own 3 m-305,s again...lol
I take it my comeups will be different than on my other sights that are graduated to 12 ?

The Garand is made in Yards .
The BM59 knob is in meters.
The VB knob is a Garand elevation knob made by a subcontractor for Beretta in Italy. They made gas plugs also.
I would go for the BM59 knob if it were me,but both are quality parts,so you can't go wrong with either!
