.. and an interesting model indeed. I have not seen this type in use before and am wondering if it is worth the prices that the bids are reflecting?

Kollmorgen 'MC 1952' 4 Double X Scope, Mount & Rings -

Stith-Kollmorgen MC 1952 (MC1) Bear Cub 4 Double X Scope is the rarest of all of the M1 Garand variants and it qualities are superior to all of the M1 scopes.
This U.S.M.C unit is in 'excellent condition' inside and outside and appears to have no discernible wear.
MC 1952 Kollmorgen scope is the rarest of all of the M1 Garand variants .
Glass is bright and clear. Reticle is fine crosshairs.
Paint finish is excellent with no chips or discernible wear.
Original issue rubber eye guard still has the protective wax finish. (pictured)
Original issue canvas carry case (pictured)
The only imperfections that I can find are: 1. A very shallow surface crease on right bak half of tube approx.1/16 to 1/8” in length appears to be in the paint, not affecting any operation or function. Paint is unbroken broken, 2. Rear lock lever stop screw is missing.(pictured)

Originally these units were issued with out serial numbers during ref-fit. However, this unit is unusual in as much that it bears a serial number 36##### on the right side of the mount bar, many do not. Of all the MC 1952 units have only seen over 25 years I have only seen two others that were serialized, one was 15+ years ago at the Tulsa Gun Show belonging to a retired Marine Msgt. sniper that was attached to the 3rd Bat, 6th Marine Regiment who served in Korea, Dominican Republic and Viet Nam. While he was attached to the 3rd Bat, 6th Marine Regiment and was issued an MC1952 when deployed late April,1965 in coordination with the 82nd Airborne, to the put down an attempted Communist overthrow of the Dominican Republic government. He told me that the serializing was at unit armorer level.
All pictures are accurate and true as to its condition. This scope unit has been in my collection for many years. I will answer any and all questions to the best of my abilities.

This appears to be a legitimate scope and mount for the USMC 1952 sniper variant. The mount fits the standard M1C Garand mounting bracket. They are pretty scarce, even more so than the M81 and M82 scopes for the M1C Garand sniper. Tough to say the value in Canada, but there is a cachet to anything USMC so US collectors would pay bigtime.

There is often things particularly firearm related/accessories on Ebay that are more prized and garner a higher price in the USA than they ever would in Canada. Also with our weaker dollar now is a bad time to buy stuff in USD. An example would be the German ammo pouches a guy gets with a RC k98 mauser these days sell for a decent dollar on ebay stateside. Also some parts and accessories more common here but not in the states go for more than you'd think. Supply and demand and ebay is a very exposed and mainstream website with lots of eyes and traffic all the time.

I have no clue, but one patron seems to keep outbidding himself. Lol possibly a fake account to drive up bids

I have done the same thing. Not outbidding but looking for the 'reserve' bid. There is always the possibility that you might 'win' the auction with the highest bid that does make it past the reserve amount. At $3005.00 and not at the magic number, I wonder what the seller thinks it is worth?

Beware that buying such items comes with the risk that it will be confiscated by the Dept. of Homeland Security under ITAR. You may lose your money. US based seller may have no idea that optics may not be allowed to leave the country.

I got the impression that only scopes over a certain magnification were of interest to the Feds where the ITAR are concerned.
