What is the latest rumor on the Garands out of Korea? I have heard that a canadian company is aggressively working to obtain these. Has anyone else heard anything?

Latest rumour is SK is on high military alert. You would think those Garands would come in handy for SK civil defense.

The way South Korea has been mass producing KC20s and newer designs, they probably have half a dozen rifles for every eligeble South Korean.

Those Garands have been stored under somewhat questionble conditions for a long time. En blocs and ammunition availabiltiy may also be a problem, especially in meaninful quantities.

I would guess that the US Govt will want them all destroyed because they own them. With all that's happening I don't think that the Korean Gvt will say no.

Thanks to the current "Anti-Gun" US president there will be no more imports of historical firearms into the US. His little buddy mikey will do the same here if he ever gets into power. If you are wondering who "mikey" is...the liberal leader.
There are a quite a few Canadians who think the current US president is some kind of rebirth of the messiah. Well, he is not that popular in the US any more, people have finally opened their eyes to his agenda. The grand experiment has gone wrong.

Keep Dreaming.

Those look better than other pics I've seen. Mind you the fellow dragging the muzzles on the pavement pretty much shows the disdain they have for the M1 Garand.

The way they are being thrown onto the bed of the truck doesn't show a lot of respect for them either. I wonder if the pic is Korean or Taiwanese?

Those Garands get heavy after a while, unlike today's Mattel like plastic rifles.

As soon as i heard about these i thought it was too good to be true i think now this just a pipe dream.

I would be the first one in line if Marstar imported these babies!

'Prolly talking out my a$$ here but -

SK is looking to raise around 100 million from the sale. Of the 100,000 total, 86,000 are Garands. If you do the math, it's not good news. $1000.00 ish BEFORE they leave Korea. That's assuming that they're all salable rifles. There's going to be some junk. Another 40% to cover losses and expenses? Maybe 60% to cover the interest on the loan while the guns sit in a storage facility while our fearless leaders tie the deal up in red tape?

BUT the largest civilian firearms market in the world is now closed. So, if they still want to make a dollar, then they MIGHT be willing to lower the price per unit to a reasonable point. Its sell them for cheap, or pay to have them destroyed. After they trip over them a few more times, the price will probably come down to a reasonable level.

But that is just my semi-business educated opinion.

Does anyone know if any of the Canadian distributors have been talking directly with anyone with access to these in SK?

I'm sure this has to now look like a very profitable chance for a lot of the Canadian importers.

Who does most of the importing on milsurps like these now adays anyways?

I know tradex brought in the most recent crates of tt-33s, but who else is operating at that level anymore? Seems most of the older ones have been closing up shop.

I was reading earlier today that there is some sort of bill int he states being looked at to move on importing these rifles as collectible, legal firearms.

We'll see what happens.

Regardless of if they ever made it over - they wouldn't be cheap. I paid around 400 for my danish M1 in 2000 / 2001.

These would likely be going for 600+ and I emphasize the +.

Also - what condition are these rifles in?

Are you willing to pay 600+ for a "chance" you'll get a useable one?

My source tells me that a deal is in the works, no idea of price. Source has 200 lined up if deal is a go. I will be able to hand pick mine, if its a go.

according to this report, the ex Korean Garands will go wholesale for $220, and the carbines for $140

Marstar's scrupulously saying they can't talk about it- just the thing to ramp up speculation.

Wow, those prices are a lot more interesting...it'll be interesting to see what comes of it if anything.

I give some credibility to the idea that the US govt. owns these rifles and they can't be sold...

It'd be nice to have a source of suitable 30-06 ammo for less than $1.20 a round or so too. It's not much fun shooting at that price...and yes, I know that reloading exists.

Do keep in mind those are WHOLESALE prices... but if they do come to Canada, it'll be interesting to see how much the rifles are marked up.

I agree with your point about them being U.S. property- and as another poster said, SK can't afford to p!ss the U.S. off right now....

Most likely these were "loaned" rifles from the US with the US retaining right of final disposal. As with other loaned rifles, the only channel for importation into the US is the CMP program. The CMP is currently flogging loaned Garands returned from Greece.

The last big CMP importation was from Denmark. In the case of the Danish Garands the loaned ones were sold thru the CMP while the ones that Denmark had purchased from the US and Italy were imported to Canada and sold here in the 1990s.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for container loads of bargain priced Korean Garands to appear on the Canadian market.

The Cdn gun market is only so big and would rapidly become saturated by this number of guns, were they to be imported here. People will recall the big influx of Danish surplus Garands with "investor packs" being flogged@ 4 for $500 or something like that. What wound up happening with a lot of the Cdn imports is that they got parted out and sold in the US as parts kits, less the non-importable receivers. The parts kits sold very well with the stripped receivers becoming "orphans" in Canada.
