Gas Port Depth

That was easy emailed SFRC last night with the same picture, just got a call from them a new barrel is already in the mail. I'll update once the replacement arrives.

Thanks everyone for letting me know that wasn't normal.

It's drilled all the way through you can see through the barrel. Thanks for postimages link

Who is the barrel maker please?

That's what you get for making your QC department the place where you put your "affirmative action" hires.

QC is the reason the barrel left like that, not the reason it happened in the first place.

If you have decent machinists, QC is just confirmation that everything is right. BCL must have some pretty retarded shop floor staff top be doing things like they are.

That's hilarious. The person that did this shouldn't be allowed to touch sharp tools...

Or even dull tools. They probably shouldn’t be allowed to touch any tools at all for fear of misusing them grievously. That’s pretty pathetic to not notice that the hole has been drilled all the way through.

I don't understand - I'm not a machinist or anything - why you would have a fixture set up that would even ALLOW you to do that? Just asking for trouble.

also on appearance, port does not line up with the machined grooves

Fluting doesn't necessarily need to be timed... You can get into junk like heat pulling the barrel in the direction of the flutes, and stringing will be in a more uniform direction if you time the flutes. Bla bla bla. But for an AR barrel, it really doesn't matter, other than for aesthetics.

It all depends how they have it set up. If it's just some monkey on a drill press without a stop set up, there's nothing (Other than intelligence and common sense) stopping a guy from breaking through into the bore, and continuing to drill through the other side. Derp.
