I agree with you that sounds really high, I bought a new Gen 4 for less than that. I was thinking more in the $450 range for the Gen 1. Does the current owner think there is some collector value there?
I just bought a gen 4 for 600 shipped with night sites, mind you it was stippled and trigger guard modded so that may reduce value for some, I personally really like it so it adds value to me... 775 is almost the cost of new
I just bought a minty Gen 2 G17 for $525 shipped. I would be ok with $625 shipped for a Gen 1 mint but that's about it. He won't budge unfortunately from $775 plus $40 shipping.
I don't mind paying a little extra for something I really want but I don't want to be taken either. Thanks for those who have offered advice. I think this may be a case of not knowing what it's worth. Maybe this thread will help work out a deal.
There is nothing spectacular about a Gen1 to command that premium. If it was built in some crazy way that made it significantly better than a Gen4 then I get it but that's far from reality
True Gen 1s (I've seen some Gen 2s listed as Gen 1) are fairly rare and would have some collector value. I don't know if that adds much, but to be honest I think that it could maybe sell on the EE for around what's being asked.
I have a Glock 17 Gen. 1 that is like mint with a laser sight attached to the trigger guard, it has been a safe queen for .... a long time and was thinking about selling, so also wondered about fair value.
Disagree. The Gen 1 is the rarest Glock pattern in north America, and the only one that could be considered to have any sort of collector value. I would say $500 is the absolute minimum for a excellent+ condition gun. But I wouldn't pay more than $600. The premium just isn't there on these guns, yet.
i wouldn't go over 400 and it would have to be perfect, I always thought the gen 1's where really slippery. If there where any marks at all on it, 300, maybe 350. As stated you can buy a used gen 3 or 4 for 500 if you look.
