Getting back into PPC....looking for advice

We use autos and revolvers in our ppc matches, the revolvers have a clear advantage because we shoot to 50yrds in our ppc matches while our duty matches only goes to 25yrds.

For the big NS match we usually send guys to,

1x Red dots are also allowed.

I know they have an overall winner, and class listings as well, but I'm not sure what defines each group. I only shoot at the club level, and generally we don't worry what you shoot.
Just no .22s.
I shoot a 45 1911 and I see glocks, czs, norincos, and cartridges from 9mm, 40sw, 357sig(!), ect.

As you can tell, your club will have their own ways of doing things, I know some clubs only go to 25yrds, so for 99% of the shooting an auto would be fine.

I know NS match details don't help you in Ontario, but getting out to a match at your club will let you know how things are being done now.

Okayshooter on here also shoots ppc and was at the big ns match, probably knows more about the class break downs, but I think people are shooting for the overall score winner most times.

Lastly, our matches have 2x as many people as when I started a couple years ago. Seems all shooting sports are getting a population boost. Great!

Yes I was... One of the guys that won the provincials with a 1402/1500 used a Sig 226. I just scored under 1100, going in blind. I still don't understand the classes. Expert, Marksmen, Master ETC.. But I think you get put in one class, and need to shoot 3 provincial matches to find out where you stay. But I think its either Semi Auto or Revolver. I Don't think it was broken down in too much detail.

I used a Grand Power K100, because my SP01 had a aftermarket hammer and failed the trigger test. 3.5LB for Semi auto, 3 Lb trigger for revolver. I guess our PPC league, used to do 50M till the CFO said we cannot shoot pistols on the rifle range, Now we just shoot 20M. Most are IPSC shooters and shoot productions so they're using CZ shadows. First Friday of the month we do custom, so can be anything from 22s to DE's. We don't follow rules anymore since nobody from the club shoots that match anymore.

I came back with high lead levels from the Indoor range. I only shot PPC 3 times since Oct. June is my lead results. So I might pick up and go couple times a month. Because I need to practice for the match in Sept.

I shoot PPC and IPSC. They each focus on different skill sets to do well, and I enjoy both. I like reload and like to tinker with revolvers, so working up accurate 50m loads for my PPC revolvers using my ransom rest makes my inner gun geek happy lol.

Our local PPC matches are run using the CPCA rules https://cpca-ppc.org/rules. You can shoot a fully tricked out PPC revolver for the CPCA 1500 Revolver matches, and any semiauto you want for the CPCA 1500 SemiAuto matches. You can also shoot a stock revolver in the Distinguished matches. For the Duty Pistol matches which only go out to 25m, for formal score you have to use a semi-auto that is on the list of duty guns. You can just shoot the Duty Pistol matches for fun using any handgun too.

why not grab a sarsilmaz pr 38? 600ish brand new, and it comes in matte black, classic blued, and stainless. It's a 586 clone, and pretty well made for a knock off. If the finish gets a little worn, no big worry.

Problem I see with those clones. Is long term and parts. Great for plinking, but not sure they would handle matches. Everything is shot DA when you use a revolver and only allowed single action when shooting 50M. So they might not take well to a trigger tune. My Alfa was 11lb DA.

You can find a done up PPC revolver for that much if you really look.

I shouldn't have sold my 28-2.

Myself and two other members from my club completed the PPC course offered at TSA in Listowell; great fun, and I'm looking forward to doing more PPC in the near future!

Anybody use a 9mm revolver for PPC? I picked up a S&W 986 that I’m looking to turn use for this so I only have to reload one caliber. Any recommendations for a 9mm mouse load?

For formal CPCA scores, some divisions like Distinguished have a minimum bullet dia (38sp). Open division minimum is .32 caliber so you would be fine there. I have seen some of us shooting a 986 at informal LEAP shoots and they are great revolvers. I've even shot my tuned and tricked out 929 at an informal shoot and it was great fun (including all the mocking from the other shooters hahahaha).

I have developed a pretty accurate 9mm mouse load. Didn't get a chance to test it on my Ransom Rest, but bench rested it was making nice groups at 10m. The fliers was all me - I could feel myself pulling off target as the trigger broke lol. Forgot to mention, these are .380 bullets

You loaded 9mm with 147grn CamPro truncated nose bullet, at COL of 1.00"? That's super short. I load that bullet at 1.097" in Shadows, which are known for having short throats, and up to 1.130" in my Tactical Sports.

Also, no mention of which powder is in the loads.

sorry, that's a typo in my spreadsheet. My COL with Campro 147gr is 1.090 which is recommended by Campro. The 3 mouse loads were using Titegroup. My 147gr reloads use N320 :)

Interesting thread. Back in the day our local club did our version of PPC. We just used whatever revolvers we had, mostly S&W 19, 66, 586, etc. We had a lot of fun. A couple of years we took on the local RCMP detachment. That's when they still used revolvers. We could have beaten them if we were blindfolded.

I am well past the competition mode, but like reading these threads. I went to shooting matches at Consul, SK and the Gardenhead club. Loads of fun, and made some good friends.
