Getting ripped off?

Im not sure if id ask for a PAL if I was buying but rely on there trader rating. and if its no 100% with 10 or more I think hard about it or investigate further. If I ask for info and the person is reluctant, I drop the deal like a hot potato its not worth the headache. There are lots of other guns out there to buy. MY .2 cents

Looks like you answered your own "newbieness" question with your childish "THINK OF THE CHILDREN" response below.

Are you so paranoid that you don't even list your "location:"? Yet more than happy to troll others that do.
Do tell, how is my "newbieness" showing?

...

... And there we have it. This thread has nothing to do with not getting scammed. This is just so gun tech can play Internet cop... Get a life. If a guys license expired or he has an old cooey from the fac days he wants to sell I could care less if he has some stupid card.

Gun tech,
It seems you're from bc. Maybe your time would be better spent down at the lake making sure everybody has a pleasure craft operators cards. I mean, my god, think of what could be done in a 12' Lund with a 4.4 and no license....THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!

Vancouver. I'm far from paranoid just not stupid.
9mms2k

I find your level of intelligence challenging but I won't lower myself to it.

Have you worked out that this thread has nothing to do with not getting ripped of?
Do you understand why your methods leave you wide open to phishing scams?
Do you understand the police won't do anything with this information your collecting?

Actually guntech, I have phoned in to verify PALs, and DOB has never been required. I've been asked, but never had it to give. And PAL was confirmed regardless. Even when there was a registry, we were not required to have that info. Now during the registry, and when transferring restricteds; when calling to complete said transfer you are required to confirm your own DOB.

But this thread seems to be about trusting a seller.. So trader rating, avoiding "to good to be true" or badly put together adds, requesting specific pictures, and mandatory phone call. Having a DOB isn't going to protect from a scam, and IMO a risk to give out.

I think you need to buy your guns at a big box store and see what treatment you get.... you don’t have enough experience here to have such a strong opinion.... I have over 75 transactions.... all smooth... just by taking simple precautions. .

So when you sell you always send out your date of birth?
What is it you're selling to these big box stores?

Just FYI, there are other Internet forums to buy and sell on.

I think we all would be better off if it was a requirement to fill out your profiles with all your information instead of hiding behind aliases.

I agree with most of what you've said, but I strongly disagree with you on this. If it was an EE requirement to post my personal info to the public, that would be my last day on here. I have no issue with providing any and all info to someone I'm making a gun deal with, but that's where it ends.

What do I care if they know my dob?..... not like I am handing out my SIN

It's clear you need to reaserch this. I'm not the person to ask... Take a peek at a few of the links I've posted in this thread. Giving out your info to anybody who replies to an internet ad be it on craigslist or cgn is just foolish.

I think you need to look at trader ratings of those that disagree with you... some people just know how to do business honour ably

If that's the best you can do...

Face it. I'm showing you how not to get scammed... And you can't just open your eyes.

Brad, do the math buddy. I'm up over ten deals in the month I've been here. Think where I'll be once I've been here as long as you.

Well, I have made a lot of deals on here, and many have been firearms.
If you are unwilling to share the basic info, I will just move on.

I have not resisted when a seller has asked for my Full Name, D.O.B. and phone number.

I agree with Guntech on most of his posting, and disagree with 9mms2k on most of his.

My trader rating speaks for itself....I have yet to be scammed, nor would I scam anyone.

Regards, Dave.

Dave,
So when you have something for sale and a perspective buyer contacts you... You have no issues providing all info gun tech has listed before cash changes hands?
Do you know what phishing is?

Some people dont understand the principles of honor and deals with a handshake.... get one negative rating and see how hard ut us to sell.... we are our own stewards

Been reading this emotionally charged thread with a few giggles, until I read this. DOB is actually a piece of information which you want to protect. Think about it, when you have to prove to a credit card vendor, bank, Customs, or CRA your identity - one critical question they ask you is DOB. If someone asks for my DOB, I refuse - as I had an individual do on the EE once. PAL number, name and even address is fine when selling a firearm.

As a seller, I am very willing to provide information to the buyer as I will not release the (rifle in most cases) without the EMT or cheque clearing first. The information provided allows the buyer to know who I am and that I exist with the CFO.

As a buyer, unless I know, or have previously interacted, I check out seller by asking for PAL#, name and addy - then I EMT. Had wonderful experiences so far on the EE.
